Obama's numbers

Here's an interesting little fact from our national poll this week:

Barack Obama's approval rating with people who didn't vote for him is 14%.

Barack Obama's disapproval rating with people who voted for him is 6%.

So he's won over twice as many people as he's lost since he got elected. Who in the national media is going to write that story? Not bad for someone whose support is supposedly falling apart.

  1. Who in the national media is going to write that story?

More of a chance than the liberal media writing this story.

  2. Tom,

Are you really complaining about media bias against Obama?

Check out how USA Today/Gallup buried the lede on their poll. Obama falls to 50% approval and the headline is some nonsense about race relations, not really the most pressing issue of the day.

  3. Keep trying to convince yourself and the left that he is doing just fine. 5 MONTHS and the great orator can't sell his health care bill. Pelosi and Reid can't get it done either. Health care is going to flunk, you will see. Massive protest met him in liberal Ma the other day but twisting fact is one way to make you feel better. He is a hated man, it grows daily and his dictator style is NOTICED by others. He is ghetto trash from Chicago and people are getting it. A monkey will beat him in 2012.

  4. Sounds good to me-- but do the proportions of supposed Obama and McCain voters in this week's sample match the election results from '08? As David C. Moore (I think) and others have pointed out, people lie to pollsters (even automated pollsters) about who they picked in the last election all the time, either to make it look like they picked the winner, or to bring their claims about past behavior in line with their current beliefs. I fear that people who voted for Obama but don't like him now might claim not to have voted for him. On the other hand, given the overall approval numbers, I find the happier story you tell (he's won over more than he's lost) very plausible too. If only he could help Deeds (or Perdue).

  6. As much as I'd like to think that the president has "won over twice as many people as he's lost since he got elected" this particular data does not support that statement. What was "Obama's approval rating with people who didn't vote for him" at the time of the election? It may have been more than 14%. What was "Obama's disapproval rating with people who voted for him" at the time of the election? It may have been less than 6%.

Frankly, you should delete this post because of it's mistaken logic. Please.

  7. "Massive protest met him in liberal Ma the other day but twisting fact is one way to make you feel better."

Funny, I was in Copley Square at the time he arrived, and I would estimate approximately 100 people protesting, about 60 for gay marriage and the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and about 40 who were nebulously against Obama, but seemingly not focused on any particular issue.

    Hardly 'massive' by any definition.

  8. Babs says: "Health care is going to flunk, you will see."

What does this statement even mean? Given that the average American pays more on healthcare than the average citizen in any other industrialized nation, and yet there are still 46 million uninsured, hasn't healthcare already "flunked"? That folks like Babs *want* it to "flunk" to win some short-term political battle, at the expense of untold lives of children and seniors, says more about the values of Obama's opposition than anything else. Jesus weeps.

  9. Many of those 14% will never vote for him anyway.

  10. I am guessing that statistics was not your best class in journalism school. If your numbers are down, and his approval numbers are down in every credible poll; it doesn't matter how you parse them. And you are right, the MSM will not comment on that.

  11. Babs honey, looking at your blog you need some very, very, very urgent and serious mental health counseling.

Let me get this straight: The President, who was the who attented Columbia and Harvard, and was the President of the Harvard law review is 'ghetto trash'? Some people just disgust me. President Obama's story is the epitome of the American Dream; his mother had to once raise him with food stamps, and he managed to work his way through hard work and determination to become president of the United States. I'm proud to have him as my president, and I can't wait to watch you people's reaction when he wins re-election in 2012.
