The week ahead

Staying on the football theme we've called several audibles on our polling plan for next week. We were supposed to have the national poll but we're pushing that back for a week. And I tweeted earlier today about doing a New Mexico poll but usually when I ask for feedback on a poll on Twitter I get a couple dozen responses and for that one I got 2 or 3, which makes me think people are not all that interested in a poll there at this point.

So we are going to have polls in two states next week but I'm going to leave you in suspense about what they are- you'll see on Tuesday (or Monday if we decide to write a preview.)

We'll do a state poll along with the national poll next weekend and we'll let you decide on that one. Give us suggestions over the weekend on what you'd like us to poll and we'll pick some finalists and put them to a vote starting Monday. Have a good weekend...I'm headed to Charlottesville for the UNC basketball game tomorrow, go Heels!

    Wisconsin. Scott Walker Fav. He has lost $800 mil in rail funding, threatened Right to work legis, and public workers. There was a college poll (historically unreliable)showing his Fav @ 41%. Also Prez match ups and state leg approval.

    Florida - Would be interested to see 2012 Senate primary and general numbers, as well as presidential primary and general numbers, and Obama approval.

    "Do you support or oppose the United States defaulting on its debt by refusing to raise the debt limit?" (or similar wording) would be an interesting probe.

    Still rooting hard for Arizona. Connecticut would be second for me right now, I think, though it's still so early there's a big mess of potential candidates.

    How about West Virginia? Some good races there- Manchin's reelection, the governorship, and whether West Virginians want a special election for governor or not.

    Massachusetts. Still very little polling on a Democratic Senate nominee. And I think that possibly you could be surprised by how poorly Romney would do here compared to other places. People don't like him much, it seems.

    Do a red state in the south. Georgia might be the best that actually would be worth the time.

    Coolidgen: We also just did Mass. not too many weeks ago. Situation probably hasn't changed much: Romney does by far the best of the four Republicans against Obama, but still down by high single digits. Pretty unclear Democratic Senate nomination picture, and none of them does very well against Brown.

    I would like to see:

    Nebraska
    North Dakota (PPP can not)
    Connecticut
    Maine
    West Virginia
    New Jersey
    Washington

    I think two of them will be the next week. It would be rare if not.

    Please, in the next national ask about guns.

    Second on some kind of Giffords question for the national poll.

    I think a Texas Senate poll would be great. You could test Kay Bailey Hutchison against one primary opponent like Michael Williams. You could also do the jungle primary where KBH does not run- Dan Patrick, David Dewhurst, Debra Medina, and a few others could all give a bit of variety to the list.

    If you need a general election opponent, just plug in John Sharp. Bill White will not be running again.
