Tennessee was the winner of our vote on where to do a state poll this coming weekend. Even though it's probably wishful thinking that any big name Democrat would run against Bob Corker, please let us know who you want us to poll. And at this point I feel like we basically need to test right wing challengers to every Republican Senator up for reelection next year so if there are folks you'd be interested to see Corker matched up against in a primary tell us that too. And if there's anything you want us to ask in Tennessee beyond the Senate race and the Presidential race we'd love to hear it. We'll definitely do favorabilities on Al Gore, Bill Frist, and Harold Ford Jr. and some stuff about college sports in the state. We haven't done a public poll in Tennessee in more than three years, I'm kind of hyped to tell you the truth.

I don't understand why you don't have already poll NH? New Hampshire is the KEY state. More than FL, OH, NC or any others.

Without NH, he's at 268 electoral votes.
And I'm more worry about NH than for exemple VA at this point because in 2010 Democrats was destroyed there and apparently they were strongly against BO.
You totally gotta poll Bruce Pearl's approval rating seeing how the school is probably going to have to make an effort not to fire him at this point.

ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see the Presidential numbers. Another pollster recently showed Obama up over Palin by several points. I'm not sure how it works, but is it possible to ask why you wouldn't vote for her? Like, have a question that asks why you prefer Obama to Palin?
Might be too difficult, but I'm curious what the main criticism of independents is. Too conservative? too inexperienced? Personally unlikable? I really want to know what causes her to lose so badly compared to the rest.
I know you'll be polling the presidential race, but before everyone assumes it's a gimme, a Vanderbilt poll had Obama+5 over Palin in TN... would be interesting to get confirmation.

As far as a primary challenge, I second testing Hank Williams, Jr. against him. Other than that, I am not sure whom to suggest, because Tennessee seems to be fairly moderate in its Republicanism and Corker seems to be pretty popular. Will there be anyone besides some truly obscure guy, possibly someone with absolutely no experience?
Polling Bill Clinton's approvals would be cool- it'll be good to see how the last Democratic President to win Tennessee is holding up.

ReplyDeleteWe did do NH back in November, right after the election. It was actually part of our final 2010 election poll. Romney was way out in front with 40% of the vote.
In the general, NH is definitely not THE key state--VA, NC, OH, and FL are much more crucial targets for the GOP to take back because they have far more electoral votes and are actually probably more red than is NH. Kerry and Obama both won NH, and it's a pretty safe bet to stay blue, even with Romney as the nominee. We'll do it again at some point soon.

Good idea. Any other popular country singers? I know Tim McGraw's been mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for some office in the future.

If we have definite answer choices that correspond to one of eight buttons on the phone. It might be more relevant in the national poll, though.

I second the Tim McGraw suggestion. You might try Mike McWherter, just coming off the governor's race. Maybe Kim McMillan, former state house majority leader, was in the governor's race before dropping out, and just got elected Mayor of Clarksville.

I have to agree that New Hampshire needs polling as does Indiana to see where Obama stands in those two states. I found a table summarizing your state 2012 Presidential polls at http://www.marstonchronicles.info and see that these are the two battleground states that need to be polled. That site had nice things to say about you. Tennessee will re-elect Corker and not go for Obama so what will a poll there really tell us?
