Iowa Suggestions

Iowa's the winner of our vote on where to poll this weekend- besides all the Presidential stuff and checking in on approval ratings for the state's major politicians anything else we should be looking at? Good question ideas much appreciated as always.

34 comments:

  1. you have to poll marriage equality and Terry Branstad's approval ratings

  2. Branstad-Culver rematch; approval ratings of statewide officials; generic ballot; Presidential ballot (and add Trump to the mix), and of course, the Iowa caucuses.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Christie Vilsack's favorability numbers would be interesting.

  4. Trump said recently he'd be open to the idea of a 3rd party run if he didn't win the GOP nomination. Why not poll Trump in both IA+NC as a 3rd party candidate with Romney, Huck, and Palin on top of the GOP ticket?

  5. Definitely ask about gay marriage and possibly whether they have any buyers remorse with Branstad

  6. Can we kick out Sarah Palin out of the line up? It's looking increasingly likely that she is not going to run.

She could be replaced by Trump, Gary Johnson, Bachmann or Christie.

  7. Throw a curve ball. Something like:

Which of the following candidates has the best chance of beating Obama?

This would show if there is any difference between vote who they like or who they think would beat Obama.

They may not be the same.

  8. Harkin v. King, 2014 Senate race.

    Christie Vilsack approvals.

    Generic Ballot.

Do you have any opinion as to the fairness of the new congressional map? Fair or not?

Would you support the recall/ouster/impeachment of judges who ruled in favor of allowing gay marriage?

Would you support a candidate for President, assuming they were otherwise qualified, who did not support ethanol subsidies?

Would you prefer a formal caucus system or a traditional secret ballot primary?

  9. Ask them if they would use the word "sincere" to describe Donald Trump. Much of the criticism of Trump so far is based on the assumption that his toying with a Presidential run is just a publicity stunt.

  10. Culver and Branstad remach. Also Christie Vilsack Favorables.

  11. support for allowing federal taxes on income earned beyond $250,000 to return to where they were in the 1990s?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rematch for Branstad/Culver, Obama caucus challenge from the left (Howard Dean? Russ Feingold?), Approval of redistricting plan.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If you had a chance to vote again, would you now vote to oust the three Supreme Court Justices voted out in November, or would you now vote to keep them on the Court?

Do you think the Iowa constitution should be changed to prohibit same-sex marriage, or kept as is?

The usual gay-marriage pro-or-con question using your usual wording.

  14. Favorable / unfavorable opinion of Mike Gronstal.

  15. Trump as a 3rd party guy and in the GOP would be great.

  16. Steve King vs tom latham in new IA 4th primary
Christy Vilsack vs. Steve king in new iowa 4th and latham vs boswell in iowa 3rd

  17. Loebsack/christy vilsack primary match up in new IA 2nd

  18. Tom Vilsack vs. Branstad

  19. It would be interesting to do another "birther" poll--but one worded more like this:

"Do you believe that Obama's refusal to release his original birth certificate proves that he has something to hide?"

This would distinguish hardcore birthers from anyone with more generic suspicions (for example Jack Cashill's theory that Obama is trying to hide some sordid family drama that would ruin his chances at reelection).

  20. Mitch Daniels. Scott Walker.

  21. Are you willing to wait until summer for Huckabee or will you start looking for someone else?

    ReplyDelete
  22. trump and bachmann in iowa. Bachmann will likely be running and could do very well there.

just for fun. 2016 dem primary -Biden or Clinton

  23. The problem with asking

"Do you believe that Obama's refusal to release his original birth certificate proves that he has something to hide?"

is that there is no refusal...it's been released. So the premise is false.

  24. I'd love to see how Rick Santorum would so in a socially conservative Iowa caucus.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Please poll the religious right-friendly candidates - Bachmann, Cain and Santorum - in the GOP primary. Also, Pawlenty would be fitting.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Grassley, Harkin approvals, Branstad approval, presidential ballot (add Trump), caucuses, generic ballot

    ReplyDelete
  27. You should consider matching up King and Latham in the newly drawn district they got lumped in together.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Poll Trump as

    A) Republican candidate against Obama

    B) Independent candidate against Obama and Huckabee/Romney/Gingrich/Palin/Bachmann/Pawlenty

    C) candidate in the GOP primary

    ...

Plus: Test this pro-life Democrat against Obama, just for fun.

    ...

    Ask the following:

If the US debt limit is not raised by US Congress and the US goes bankrupt, who would you blame ?

    Obama, Democrats, GOP ?

  29. See which senator has the higher approval ratings, Grassley or Harkin

  30. To the Anonymous commenter above:

Actually, Obama's original birth certificate hasn't been released. The issue depends on the nuances of Hawaii's birth certification practices. You can see the well-known article on Fact Check for the details.

Basically, the certificate released by the Obama campaign was a modern copy, printed from a database, dating from after Hawaii computerized its birth record system.

There is another, original birth certificate that dates all the way back to 1961, includes more information (newborn statistics, etc.), and is presumably archived somewhere in Honolulu.

The former is supposed to be acceptable legal proof of birth in the jurisdiction in question, but the "birthers" and others have been demanding to see the latter as well. That one has never been released.

  31. A two-part gay marriage question would be very interesting. First the normal marriage question, and then a question about whether they would support removing from office judges who voted to allow gay marriage. It would be interesting to see if there are some people who oppose same-sex marriage but also wouldn't remove an incumbent judge from office over that issue alone.

  32. IA w/ the poster who suggested Harkin v King - is it King's Iowa, or Harkin's Iowa?

I wonder, too, will Independents choose to participate in Republican caucuses b/c it's a contested race, and if so, how will that affect the outcome there?

And I wonder a little how much Wisconsin's Walker has creeped into the news there, and what they think of him, of his union-busting law, his refusal of high-speed rail, any of it. I guess I wonder about the general mood and trend of the upper mid-west.

  33. Obviously, please poll Bachmann and Trump. I'd also poll Mitch Daniels, perhaps at the expense of Ron Paul. The former is 3rd on Intrade prediction markets with 8.8%, while Paul is at 2.2%.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I expect that this comment comes too late, but please poll the budget that the House approved the other day! The Ryan budget still hasn't been tested anywhere!
