Polling the fringe candidates

John Ross Hendrix is a former Republican candidate for several offices who, well, go to his website and make your own conclusions about him.

Yet in our most recent two polls of the Democratic primary for US Senate, Hendrix has polled at 8% and 7%, not too far behind much more well known and viable candidate Jim Neal whose standing has been at 13% in each of the two polls. Kay Hagan has led each of those polls with over 20%.

I don't really know how to explain Hendrix's success. It seems doubtful that Democratic poll respondents remember him from his previous losses in Republican primaries. Maybe people think he's related to Jimi Hendrix.

But as long as he's polling above 5% we're going to keep him. That means for consistency's sake we'll include some of the other fringe candidates in our monthly tracking poll next week. That means adding Duskin Lassiter to the mix for the Democratic US Senate nomination, Dennis Nielsen to the contest against Bev Perdue and Richard Moore, and Elbie Powers to the GOP gubernatorial contest. If they poll above 5% we'll keep them and if they don't we'll take them out.

What poll are you referring to? I'm not sure I've seen that one...

I'm not sure if this answers your question but the polls Hendrix was included in I'm referring to were our November and December primary tracking polls.

I can't figure out how to do hyperlinks in the comments but you can find each of those on the front page of our website.
