Kay Hagan 35
Jim Neal 8
Duskin Lassiter 4
Marcus Williams 4
Howard Staley 2
Kay Hagan is pretty much a lock to win the Democratic nomination for Senate. Her numbers have improved considerably in the two weeks since she started running television ads, and there's no sign of a similar effort from Jim Neal on the horizon. Neal has run a really active and admirable campaign but I think the bottom line here is going to end up being that you can't beat a good media campaign with a good grassroots campaign in the 21st century in this state.
Hagan leads 61-7 with the 35% of likely voters who reported seeing her television ads in the last week.

It's pretty sad that winning elections these days comes down to who has the most money and who has the political establishment behind them.
ReplyDeleteJim Neal has been on the road every day reaching out to North Carolina voters while his opponent Kay Hagan
has the luxury of calling on the state's democratic establishment to propel her to the democratic nomination for US Senate.
Kay Hagan REFUSES to debate Jim Neal in a one-on-one format and does so because her positions on the issues (at least the positions she claims to have) would ultimately detract voters away from her. Not to mention her debating skills are less than stellar.
Jim Neal has a progressive agenda (take a look at http://www.jimnealforsenate.com/) and wants to put our democracy back in the hands of the people who rightfully own it...US! By nominating Kay Hagan the state would have two identical candidates running in the general election with no real differences between them other than what party they affiliate themselves with.
Kay Hagan is a corporate democrat and even if she could beat Elizabeth Dole this November (which is doubtful because they are so similar) all we are doing is trading one face for another in Washington.
If 2008 is supposed to be the year of change in our political process I sure hope people start voting for what they want and not for what they think they can have.
