The Declining Popularity of Sarah Palin

The Sarah Palin pick has not worn well with North Carolina voters, as her net favorability has gone from +8 to -3 in the course of three weeks, for a negative shift of 11 points.

She is particularly unpopular with independents in North Carolina. 46% of them now say her selection makes them less likely to vote for John McCain compared to just 36% who say her spot on the ticket makes them more inclined to support him. Even among Republicans enthusiasm for her has dropped from 75% to 67%.

The economic troubles are the main thing driving Barack Obama's movement in North Carolina, but Sarah Palin is not doing John McCain any favors here.

Last week PPP found a similar 12 point drop in Palin's favorability in Colorado.

    Easy: She is unqualified to be VP of the United States. I don't care what reproductive choice she made but I DO care about her complete inability to answer basic and expected questions about the foreign and US policy.

    Please watch her Couric interview-all segments-if you need help understanding to what I refer.

    John,
    Voters are looking at more than her pregnancies to determine her value as a candidate. She's cut funding for programs that support teen mothers, cut funding for the Alaska special olympics despite her procliamed support for special needs parents, and hasn't done much but talk about Alaska being the nation's leader in rape, incest, and domestic violence. And she's pro-life except when the mother's life is at immediate risk. . . overall, she's not doing much to win over women who care about all of the above issues.

    C'mon people he was joking, he can't seriously believe Plain's decision to have a baby makes her the right VP pick.

    BTW with the very real possibility that our next president will face an economy in depression, that Sarah Plain pick just keeps looking better and better. Fills me with confidence, I mean her boss is 72, so he has all that experience to pass on ;)

    Zakstar, as long as you're listing Palin's negatives, don't forget that when she was mayor of Wasilla, she had the police charge women for their own rape kits. Isn't it interesting that this was the only crime in Wasilla where the victim had to pay for police work?

    Oh, yeah. The AK state legislature decided that this was so heinous, they passed a law making it illegal. BTW, Wasilla was the only town impacted since they were the only ones in the state doing it.

    Even conservatives should be worried about Palin. She could be President in January, but she has never given a press conference. Will she really "play ball" with the conservatives who are helping her now? Once she's in power, she'll do whatever she wants. Conservatives (and everyone else) may be very surprised by what she does. Do we need to take this kind of gamble?

    The constitution says there will be no religious test for the presidency. There was a reason for them putting that in there because religious fanatics have lost their ability to think for themselves. The country needs someone with a clear head right now and you can't find that quality on the republican ticket.

    While not terribly impressed by Palin, Zakstar and lfc's comments show how a biased media play into an election.

    Palin didn't cut funds for Special Olympics, she didn't approve all of what they asked for, but it was still a 10% increase over the previous year.

    Likewise, while she didn't cut funding for teen mothers, she didn't approve all of an additional capital request they made for a new building. They got an increase of their operational funds.

    The life of the mother is also the only exception she PERSONALLY believes is a reason to have an abortion. She has stated that while she opposes Roe vs. Wade, and believes that the life of the mother is the only reason to have an abortion, she believes it is up to the community to decide when abortion should be legal.

    The rape kit smear was also disproved - such charges were common at the time throughout the US, they were intended to get insurance companies to pay, no one was ever charged in Wasilla, and the cases that brought it to the states attention were from regious other than Wasilla.

    But the lies make the left happy so they go unchallenged by the MSM.

    While I admit that I think the comment from Mr. Lewis was done in irony, I actually know people who are voting for McCain solely on the fact that Palin didn't abort that baby. Seriously. I find that scary. I think what she did was admirable - though I am in no way a Palin fan - but really, it doesn't mean she's fit to lead. If that were true, there'd be quite a huge population of women out there ready to be in charge of our country.

    I think it's more about "how" she governed. Hiring unqualified school chums to cushy jobs. I mean, hiring her friend as Dept. of Agriculture because she "likes cows"? The fact that Todd, and at least 7 of her staff ignored subpoenas rather than testify in the troopergate investigation? Charging per diem while at her home? And, apparently she was home alot, hence the "where's sarah" buttons that were made in protest. She needs someone to hold her hand at all times. Not good. Not the right woman for the job.

    This is the ole' conservatives suspicious of us libertarians kickin' in.

    Libertarians like Palin are barely let in the door by some conservative Republicans. In previous campaigns, Alaska social conservatives started a whisper campaign that Palin was "not really a Republican," but rather "a libertarian." All because she attended a few Libertarian Party meetings seeking their support.

    Conservatives need to get used to it. We libertarians are here to stay. And Sarah Palin is our champion!

    Among my other problems with Palin is this one. Amy woman knows that after 40 the chances of having a baby born with Downs Syndrome are dramatically incteased. Did she want a baby born at this time in her life to make a pont or a political statement? Just to prove that she is against abortion or to prove her standing in the Republican Party. Either choice, it is one hell of a life she gave her newborn.
