A couple things for Friday afternoon:
-We're taking your suggestions on where we should do our last state poll of the year, which we'll conduct next weekend and release the week of Christmas. Leave your suggestions in the comments- as usual we're looking to do things there isn't a lot of data out there on, or if there is a lot of data please suggest new angles that would make it worth adding our polls to the pile.
We'll pick a few of our favorite nominations and put it to a vote starting Monday.
-Second, I said we would do a poll in a Republican held Congressional district to see the extent to which all politicians are seeing their popularity drop right now as opposed to just Democrats.
Here are the choices:
MN-6: Michele Bachmann's propensity for generating controversy made this one of the closest House races in the country last year and there's no doubt her opponent next year will again have plenty of money. At the same time this district voted 53-45 for John McCain.
NE-2: Barack Obama won a surprising victory here last year and Lee Terry faces another tough challenge from State Senator Tom White. Plus Omaha is one of my favorite cities in the country, even if my heart gets broken every time I go there (because UNC doesn't win the College World Series.)
OH-12: Pat Tiberi got lucky last year...his district went 54-45 for Obama but Democrats didn't have a strong, well funded challenger to him. That shouldn't be the case again this year and it would also be interesting to look at how the Senate and Governor's races are playing out in his district.
We'll have voting open until 4 PM on Monday, have a great weekend!
Poll Kentucky
ReplyDeleteTom,
ReplyDeleteYou should poll Indiana. With former GOP Congressman John Hostettler running, and the Health care debate, it would be interesting to see where Bayh stands heading into 2010, and if Hostettler is even a lock for the GOP nomination.
Minnesota
ReplyDeleteIllinois primary is LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AWAY!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, MA special election for senate is only 1 month away.
I'll nominate Texas gubernatorial for the general election. I'll be good to see if the Perry vs. Hutchison fight is doing any real damage yet, if Bill White is as strong as Democrats hope, and if perhaps the nation's anti-sentiment could hurt Republicans too.
ReplyDeleteAre you guys going to poll the MA special senate election? That's what my vote would be for, unless you plan to do it closer to election day.
ReplyDeletePoll Bob Inglis (R-SC District 4). He's moved way too far left and has a lot of real conservatives lined up to primary him in 2010.
ReplyDeleteDoes Tiberi have a declared opponent? Else it's not too useful to poll there. I voted for Terry so far. Bachmann isn't even endangered imo, she didn't lose in a wave year with national negative exposure, so why would she lose now, that crazy is the new normal?
ReplyDeletePoll NE-02. As the surprise electoral vote that went for Obama last year, it is a canary in the coal mine for the President and congressional Democrats.
ReplyDeleteYou really should poll Indiana. Bayh's seat is generally viewed as safe for the Democrats, but it's possible that the national environment may be taking a toll on him. Actually getting a half-way serious challenger in John Hostettler makes the race worth taking a look at.
ReplyDeleteIt would also be interesting to see Barack Obama's approval numbers in the state, as well as Mitch Daniels' approval numbers.
Poll open seat in Hawaii
ReplyDeleteRules show top vote getters wins race and all republicans and dems are on ballot
like to see what race looks like
test OH-12 - can't think of a swingier part of the country than Ohio
ReplyDeleteNE-02. Interesting things happening there!
ReplyDeleteIndiana. That Senate race has potential to be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think you should poll NJ-7. This district is historically conservative but went for Obama in 2008. Question is - is the district actually conservative or liberal in makeup?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as a Republican: NE-02. It's of interest for the reasons that you gave.
ReplyDeleteNE-02 -- this one is going to be very interesting.
ReplyDeleteIndiana or Colorado
ReplyDeleteOr Nevada or Illinois primary
How is Reid doing as he moves the health bill ?
Is bennet vulnerable?
What if bayh votes for a public option? Can he be unseated ?
Illinois primary is soon. Will Hoffman catch up to giannoulias
Please don't poll Minnesota - I'm certain that many on the left will be doing Bachmann polls soon.
ReplyDeleteNebraska is interesting but it's Nebraska where the Republicans aren't likely to do poorly.
The Ohio seat and Tiberi are far more interesting. Also, Ohio deserves props because of the many races and the fact that the Browns stink. Please give this Buckeye a little holiday cheer with an interesting analysis that makes him forget his football sadness.
It seems to me that Bachmann polls will be coming out in droves soon. I hope you choose to do one of the other two seats.
ReplyDeleteNE-02. Lee Sucks.
ReplyDeletePoll Ohio.
