North Carolina's right wing Civitas Institute puts out a poll every month and for their most recent one they sent out press releases trumpeting Barack Obama and Bev Perdue's falling popularity and the state's support of the death penalty and banning gay marriage.
Surprisingly they didn't send out the most interesting result from the poll, which found that 46% of North Carolinians were opposed to the state joining in the anti-health care lawsuit with only 40% of voters supportive of it. It's not that they got some strangely progressive sample, as 52% of the folks they polled expressed opposition to the recently passed health care bill while only 37% said they supported it.
This goes to what we've talked about repeatedly- voters are sick of the health care issue and even a decent portion of those opposed to the bill just want it to go away. They don't want Republicans to keep on dragging it out, even in a relatively conservative state like North Carolina.
The GOP really has a choice on health care- if they stop pushing on it now they will clearly have scored a victory on the issue. But if they keep up with lawsuits and repeal talk they risk having the tide turn against them by antagonizing voters who just want it to go away.
It's not that much of a surprise that they didn't send out a press release about the lawsuit. They never send out releases on findings that are counter to their right-wing political philosophy.
ReplyDeleteTom, I agree!
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray, that the GOP keeps pressing for this silly, lawsuit. All it will do, is turn people away from the GOP, in this ever increasing moderate state.
You're jumping waaaaay over your head on this one Tom. The poll gauged simply one specific approach on fighting Obamacare. So I don't see why you said that because of that "voters are sick of the health care issue and even a decent portion of those opposed to the bill just want it to go away." They're not "sick of it" by any stretch, it's THE issue that's driving enthusiasm up for the GOP and record support for GOP candidates. Americans want Obamacare repealed.
ReplyDeleteI've been all over the left-wing blogs, and you're repeating the new Dem talking point: stop talking about Obamacare. The same bill that was supposed to be so incredibly popular according to Democrats.
In other news.....
ReplyDeletePer, Right Wing Ramussen, Marshall is closing in on Burr:
48 Burr
40 Marshall
Hmmm....
"... if they stop pushing on it now they will clearly have scored a victory on the issue."
ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about here? What victory? I don't see how the republicans have scored any kind of victory on the health care issue...? Seems to me the dems were the only victorious ones in that battle. All I got from the republicans was no, no, no, and repeal, repeal, repeal. How did that help anybody? Now that people are beginning to see some benefit from the new health plan, who's going to want it taken away? No, this is a disaster for republicans... There's no victory here at all.
Voters want Obamacare to go away. More importantly, business owners and investors (job creators) want Obamacare to go away.
ReplyDeleteThe lawsuit will certainly be a success. Obamacare is unconstitutional and immoral. It MUST be overturned or repealed for there to be any justice in America.
Majorities across America want Obamacare to be REPEALED. Americans are too impatient for Obamacare to be repealed to wait for the legal system. And America believes the courts are too liberal, perhaps too liberal to listen to reason and overturn this monstrosity.
Americans want Obamacare REPEALED A.S.A.P. They don't want to wait for the uncertainty of an unaccountable judiciary. They want Congress to do the right thing NOW and Repeal Obamacare NOW.
Repealing Obamacare will do more to improve healthcare than any Democratic idea ever would.
With constant reminders regarding the state of the economy, the public would really like something done about that rather than the continued focus on health reform. In this economy, spending taxpayer dollars on frivolous lawsuits for political purposes will not go over well as those opposing such lawsuits work to make these costs known.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing frivolous about standing up for our inalienable rights. Obamacare is an immoral intrusion upon our liberty and property. Every moral person would agree that it is the DUTY of a responsible person to challenge Obamacare until it is found unconstitutional and rendered null and void. To allow Obamacare to go unchallenged is unconscionable.
ReplyDeleteDon't you people ever get tired of recycling the weak talking points the Healtth Insurance Industry snuck into your heads? Think sheep, think.
ReplyDeleteScott,
ReplyDeletethe tyrant is the government, not private industry. The problem with health care is that innocent productive insurance companies have been PERSECUTED by a tyrannical government.
Government is the problem.
Private enterprise is the solution.
Government healthcare is so oppressive that doctors are dropping Medicare patients in droves, AS THEY SHOULD. Government is the CAUSE of every problem with our health care system.

North Carolina Voters have not yet seen the effects of Obamacare.. They are such good hearted souls that they are laid back and trusting of their local good old boy politicians.. When they awake there is going to be some real anger at the damage that politicians such as Bob Etheridge have inflicted on us.
ReplyDeleteSupporters of Obamacare are a great disappointment to me. Their mindset is short-sighted, unrealistic, and possibly selfish. Does our healthcare system need serious reform YES, but not this misleading legislation that the power-hungry devious Democrats shoved onto us with its outrageously high costs and infringment on individual rights. My head is still reeling from amazement that they could convince themselves they were doing good.
