Looking at a Santorum Bid

Rick Santorum's looking more and more like a Presidential candidate in 2012 but he's got a problem- even voters in his home state aren't real supportive of a potential bid. Tested against Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul in Pennsylvania Santorum can muster only a 4th place finish at 15%.

Now it should be noted that most of the big name Republicans test within the margin of error of each other in Pennsylvania. Huckabee and Palin lead the way with 17%, followed by Romney at 16%, Santorum at 15%, Gingrich at 14%, and Paul at 6%. But you would expect a serious Presidential contender to poll far better than that in a state he represented for 12 years in the US Senate.

Santorum actually ties Huckabee for the lead with conservatives in Pennsylvania at 19%. But he gets pushed back to 4th place because he can muster only 6% with moderate voters.

We also tested the Republican field in Pennsylvania without Santorum and those numbers truly confirm how up for grabs the 2012 GOP nomination is- Romney gets 20% followed by Gingrich, Huckabee, and Palin all at 19%. At least in his home state it doesn't appear Santorum's entrance would hurt any candidate in particular- when he's not included 24% of his support goes to Romney, 21% to Gingrich, 17% to Palin, 12% to Paul, and 10% to Huckabee.

We looked at the GOP field in Illinois as well. There Gingrich leads the way with 23% to 21% for Huckabee, 18% for Palin, 16% for Romney, and 7% for Paul. Tight race there just like it is everywhere, but it does confirm that Gingrich has pretty strong support nationwide and would be much more than a regional candidate if he decided to get in.

  1. I would be interested in how strong of an economic/fiscal or business background/record these people have.

Who has a history of financial success better than Romney and is going to run for President? Who?

As a highly successful leader in business, he made money by turning around financially struggling companies such as Monsanto, Dominos Pizza, Burlington, Corning, and others, saving thousands of jobs.

Later he ran a venture capital firm which provided money to numerous startup companies such as Staples Office Supplies, enabling them to expand and create thousands of more jobs. During the 14 years he headed the company, Bain Capital's average ANNUAL rate of return on investments was 113 percent.

As Governor of MA, he worked to turn around the state’s economy from a few billion dollars deficit to a surplus, balancing their budget in less than 4 yrs. And never accepted a salary while in office.

When the 2002 Winter Olympics struggled under scandal and financial disaster he went to Salt Lake, took over for a one (1) dollar salary, leading it to be one of the most financially successful Olympics in US history.

What is wrong with America today? It’s been the economy, stupid!

  2. What did you find for the GOP field in Washington?

  3. The guy who brought us RomneyCare has no chance.

  4. In addition Massachusetts was 47th of 50 states with a job growth rate of a pitiful 0.9% under Romney.

  5. With this poll, Gingrich has actually pulled ahead of Huckabee in my rough 2012 RNC delegate estimate. Gingrich gets 343 delegates to Huckabee's 322.

Otherwise, Romney is still the frontrunner with 503 delegates, Palin is a third-tier candidate with 93 delegates, and Paul is in the fourth tier with 20 delegates.

  6. IT,

That's off because the delegates are all now pretty much proportional.

    Winner-take-all is gone effectively.

  7. WHO UNDERSTANDS ECONOMICS? RON PAUL, THAT'S WHO!... READ HIS BOOK: END THE FED!

RON PAUL IS SENDING A MESSAGE, IF YOU WANT HIM TO RUN... PROVE IT WITH YOUR SUPPORT.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CANDIDATE I SUPPORT AS MUCH AS I SUPPORT RON PAUL! ANYONE WITH MORE THAN 2 BRAIN CELLS SHOULD BE SUPPORTING HIM! HE CAN'T BE BOUGHT OFF AND HE MEASURES EVERYTHING HE DOES BY THE CONSTITUTION, HE IS RIGHT ABOUT FOREIGN POLICY, RIGHT ABOUT LIBERTY, RIGHT ABOUT GETTING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BACK IN LINE WITH THE CONSTITUTION, RIGHT ABOUT SOUND MONEY, RIGHT ABOUT FREE MARKETS, RIGHT ABOUT STATES AUTHORITY, RIGHT ABOUT THE DRUG WAR, RIGHT ABOUT BIG GOVERNMENT, I COULD GO ON AND ON. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR FROM A CANDIDATE THAN WHAT RON PAUL PROVIDES?

PASS HIS NAME AROUND EVERY CHANCE YOU GET. ASK PEOPLE TO WATCH HIM ON YOUTUBE. ONCE THEY SEE HIM SPEAK ON THE ISSUES, THEY ARE HOOKED!

2012 IS THE TIME FOR US TO TAKE BACK OUR GOVERNMENT AND RON PAUL IS THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB! 2012... THE DR. IS IN! RON PAUL IN 2012 OR SOONER!

The neocon policies and lies of the republican leaders over the past few decades have been a disgrace and the majority of American voters have had enough of it!

If republicans want to win in 2012 they better provide a candidate that is very different from what We The People have been seeing from BOTH parties! We The People want a candidate with principles that conform to the Constitution and include honesty and integrity along with a sound plan for getting us out of the financial and foreign policy boondoggles both parties have led us into.

Obama was not elected because he is so good, he was elected because America was sick of Bush and wanted "change" and because McCain was a joke who represented more of the same old Bush policies... MAYBE WORSE.

The media is owned by the same banksters that own Bush, McCain and Obama. That's why the media did everything they could to hurt Ron Paul. Watch him on youtube in the 2008 debates... HE WAS RIGHT THEN AND HE IS RIGHT NOW!

Santorum is unknown and unpopular even in his home state.
Romney supports socialism, just look at his healthcare plan. He is a neocon and will never beat Obama!
Huckabee is a neocon with far too many problems to be elected. Google: "Huckabee problems" and you'll see what I mean.
Sarah Palin: To use her own made up word, voters should “refudiate” her. The woman can’t get in public without sounding like her cheese slid off its cracker long ago. Watch her on youtube for plenty of evidence and laughs.
Newt Gingrich, just Google his name and decide for yourself whether you want him representing you. He’s a disgrace!
Ron Paul: Google his name and you will see a strong voting record based on the Constitution, sound judgments, a man well versed in foreign policy, a man with much understanding about financial maters and fiscal responsibility, a strong family life and not a hint of scandal anywhere. That’s why Ron Paul supporters encourage voters to Google his name.

Ron Paul has NEVER voted to raise taxes, NEVER voted for an unbalanced budget, NEVER voted for a restriction on gun ownership, NEVER taken a government paid junket, NEVER voted to increase the power of the executive branch. He voted AGAINST the so called Patriot Act. He voted AGAINST regulating the internet. He voted AGAINST the war in Iraq. He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. Treasury EVERY YEAR.

There is a reason they call him “ Dr. No” in Congress, he won’t go along with the unconstitutional waste, loss of rights and freedoms, nation building, unconstitutional wars and host of other actions that are contrary to the will of the people but supported by the majority in the federal government.

Wake up if you haven’t already! Stop worrying about what party a person belongs to and start looking at the person. Judge them by their fruit.

  8. I think a story that needs to get out is the fact that Rick Santorum is on the board of directors for Universal Health Services, being investigated across the country and especially in the state where he lives, Virginia, for Medicaid fraud. There are nationwide investigations by various state attorney generals and the US Department of Justice resulting in findings of fraud, abuse, neglect, child endangerment, molestation, rape, and deaths of disabled children forced to stay in residential facilities owned by Universal Health Services and Psychiatric Solutions Inc. Disabled children stay in these facilities because their families cannot receive funding (about $100 per day) for community based services which would allow these children to live at home with their families. The government will only fund placement (at a cost of up to $1,000 per day) in for-profit facilities run by Psychiatric Solutions Inc. and Universal Health Services.
Look at this FB page to see the facts.
