Anthony Weiner has become one of the most unpopular figures in the history of PPP's polling and a majority of Americans now think he should resign.
70% of voters nationally have an unfavorable opinion of Weiner compared to just 8% with a positive one. He's really burned his bridges with pretty much everyone. Certainly his numbers are their worst with Republicans. He has a 3/85 favorability spread with them. But it's hard to take much positive from his 14/60 standing with independents or the 8/63 he pulls with Democrats either.
60% of voters think he should resign to only 25% who think he should stay in office and 15% who don't offer an opinion. A plurality of Democrats (46/34) think he should step aside as do a majority of independents (54/28) and pretty much all Republicans (81/11). Interestingly men (66%) feel much strongly than women (55%) that Weiner needs to go.
If there is a silver lining for the notoriously publicity hungry Congressman it is this- the 78% of voters nationally with an opinion about Weiner exceeds the 64% who said they had an opinion about House Speaker John Boehner on the poll. Only in America can sending a dirty tweet make you more well known than being one of the most powerful people in the country.

Fortunately for Rep. Weiner, "70 percent of voters nationally" will never have a chance to weigh in on whether he deserves another term in congress.
ReplyDeleteOnly those New York residents registered to vote in that state's 9th Congressional District will have anything to say about it.
As such, these polling results are practically meaningless.
Incredibly,....millions of young adults abruptly learned how deviant sexting is. They had thought it to be perfectly normal. This is how removed from reality the internet has led American youth.

ReplyDeleteBy the time the next congressional election comes around, Weiner's district will no longer exist.
This proves that Americans are idiots. I strongly support Anthony Weiner. One of the best congressmen we have. Why should what he does in his personal life be of importance to anyone?
ReplyDeleteAnd why do people feel so strongly that Weiner should resign when David Vitter won reelection? Nonsensical. It's amazing the stuff Republicans get away. Actual crimes. Seeing a prostitution for years. A Democrat sends a dirty picture on the internet (who hasn't?) and it's supposed to be a big deal? Give me a break.
@IAm IronMan: "Why should what he does in his personal life be of importance to anyone?"
ReplyDeleteBecause as someone elected in a representational capacity, he must have the public TRUST. I defy you to explain how someone who lies with impunity can be trusted. And spare me the "only lied about sex" nonsense. He was willing to accuse Britebrat of the CRIME of hacking tust to save his own hide. How you think someone so lacking in character can be entrusted to make laws dispensing BILLIONS of federal dollars is beyond me.
Waklking around naked under a trench coat and flashing random women on the street is a crime. This is what Weiner is doing with 21 year old college students so stop the bull crap defense of the indefensible.
