David Paterson has earned a high level of popularity with New York Democrats since he ascended to the Governor's chair earlier this year. He has a more than 7:1 approval to disapproval ratio.
There has been some discussion that he might appoint Andrew Cuomo to Hillary Clinton's Senate seat to remove him as a potential future rival, but these sorts of numbers do not make it appear he would be particularly vulnerable to a primary challenge. If he decides to appoint Cuomo, it doesn't need to be for that reason.
Among black voters his approval runs 79-4.
