Rhode Island received the most votes from distinct individuals in our 'vote on where to poll' this week so that's where we'll go this time around along with North Carolina.
For Rhode Island: who should we test against Sheldon Whitehouse besides Don Carcieri and what questions should we ask besides the races for President and Senate?
And we're appreciative of good North Carolina question suggestions as well. We're going to finalize these polls tomorrow afternoon so any ideas you can give us in the next 24 hours will be in the mix and much appreciated.

For NC, I would ask whether they support of oppose the Democratic National Convention being held in Charlotte in 2012. I would also include gubernatorial race head to heads that include Republicans like Rep. Sue Myrick, Rep. Patrick McHenry, and of course the former Charlotte mayor who she battled last time around.
RI-Sen Republicans; John Robiltalle, Catherine Taylor, John Loughlin.
Also in Rhode Island- Chafee's approval, same-sex marriage, Republican-Prez primary? (Is Romney doing as well there as in NH?)
North Carolina- maybe state legislature- will Dems win it back in 2012?
I'd include John Robitaille, Gio Cicione, and perhaps John Loughlin as reasonable opponents.
In terms of other questions, I'd do...
1. an approval rating for Linc Chafee
2. an approval rating for David Cicilline
2. support/oppose gay marriage legislation

Maybe try Lincoln Almond, Donald Carcieri against Whitehouse.

Bonus Republican: Scott Brown (to see how a moderate R would play against Obama in a deep blue state.)
Senate: Avedisian, Fung, Almond, Cariceri, Robitalle, Loughlin - in primary and against Whitehouse.

Chafee in a Senate match-up as an Indy. I know he's not likely to leave the Governor's mansion, but it'd be interesting to see.

I would also poll the 2012 Republican Presidential primary, though we'd all have to keep in mind that Rhode Island's primary doesn't work that way--primary voters select individual delegates (though the proportion of selected delegates for each candidate seemed to roughly match the candidates' popular support in 2008).
Please ask about marriage equality. That is the hot topic now in RI and it is why RI won the polling.

The legions over at Dailykos were urged to in the hope that a same-sex marriage question would be asked. Now, I don't think this was ever on their main page, and I surely do not purport to know whether this advert made a legitimate difference. I may be on to nothing here.
But I did think R.I. surged late in the game- or am I making that up? It's hard to tell, but I thought I'd put this out there.

Please be sure to poll a marriage equality question. It's tracked well for some time. But with the lawmakers perched to vote at any time, it'd be nice for them to be working from fresh information and reinforce the results of previous polls.
Marriage equality is the biggest issue in Rhode Island right now - definitely poll that.

I was among the people people who participated in the Daily Kos campaign. It was entirely user generated, and had no affiliation with DK, aside from being posted there. (And no it was never front paged.)
Nothing untoward going on. If PPP puts something out for a popular vote, it can be expected people may build a campaign to influence it. That is what PPP hopes by putting these out, to generate hits to their own site, right?

I don't think the administrators of the DK site had anything to do with the ploy. I believe that site works as such that different bloggers post their own material within the site, or something like that- and the call was made by such a blogger.
I don't know if the call made a big difference, and if so whether the fellow making the call intended to really tip the scales. I think he was just publicizing a vote contest, and promoting one option- fair and innocent. If indeed my suspicion is (it may after all not be) justified, then the sheer size of the community over there would be the culprit here.
So, I don't think there's any dirty tricks at hand, though I share your legitimate concern.

The people who run Daily Kos and who pay for PPP polls had nothing to do with the fact that diaries appeared on Daily Kos urging people to vote for Rhode Island in the poll.
That was pretty much my doing, and I have no association, monetary or otherwise, with Daily Kos, its front-pagers, PPP, or anything related, other than that I write user diaries there.
So, to be clear, Daily Kos, the organization, had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that RI won the poll.
Please poll marriage equality in Rhode Island, that's why it got my vote. But Kos didn't send me over here. I'm just really into marriage equality.
I and many people voted for Rhode Island because of the marriage equality issue coming up in that state (for those of you confused as to why anybody would vote for Rhode Island).

I think marriage equality will be a hot topic in the '12 elections... All of the candidates for RNC Chairman were specifically asked for their views on marriage equality - and the ultra-right wing, christian conservatives are certainly pushing this issue to the forefront. Not sure they will be able to make hay of it, but...
If you ask about marriage equality, please put it in language that is neutral.

I live in Rhode Island and echo the calls to poll on marriage equality. The main poll currently making it into local news stories was done by one of the advocacy groups and was written in a biased way. Solid, unbiased data would be helpful to the public conversation that is currently happening here. For the Senate race, the Republicans in play would be Carcieri, Robitaille and Loughlin.

We asked if they WANTED the convention, but that was asked 9-12 days before the announcement that it WOULD be here.
Well, I voted for New Hampshire, but Rhode Island was going to get a look sooner or later, I guess. Same as Hawaii, the outcome of the toplines isn't much in doubt, but it'll be a baseline for a deep blue state. Marriage equality is the only question I know of for Rhode Island to do otherwise, being the only New England state that doesn't have gay marriage (at least for now; the teatards who've taken over the NH government will probably try to roll back civil rights there before they get voted out en masse again in 2012).

I know you polled on the DNC coming to Charlotte before the announcement was made, but I would like to see you ask a follow-up (are people glad it's coming, I guess). I would also be curious to see whether people think having the convention here will help Obama/Democrats in NC for 2012. I understand that conventions don't typically result in votes, but I wonder whether NC voters *think* that having the convention here will help Dem chances overall.
