Obama takes the lead in Pennsylvania

Barack Obama 45
Hillary Clinton 43

Barack Obama has taken the lead in Pennsylvania, a remarkable turnaround after trailing Hillary Clinton by 26 points in a PPP poll in the state just two and a half weeks ago.

Obama's steep rise could be a reflection of a growing sense among Democratic voters that a continued divisive nomination process will hurt the party's chances of defeating John McCain this fall. An Obama upset in Pennsylvania would be virtually certain to force Clinton out of the race.

Obama has his customary large advantage with black voters (75-17) and is keeping it relatively competitive with white voters (49-38)

He leads across all age groups except senior citizens and balances Clinton's 10 point lead with women with his own 15 point lead with men.

Full results here.

Obama is like the Wizard of OZ. Big booming voice of authority, making impressive noises of little substance. Reality is that behind that curtain is a little man, with no real power to do what he wants to do. If he wins and implements his ideas, he will be the next Jimmy Carter (1 and done) and the country will still not be out of the recession that is looming. As usual both he and HRC promise huge new programs to be paid for by 'big business', but it seems the 'smartest' in the electorate buy that, when the average american knows that any rise in cost will just be passed down to the consumer. A poll today on MSNBC shows HRC ahead by 9 points, not losing, but I feel another come-back, dont't you?

Quote: "

White folks....White folks....

Rev. Wright told the truth !! "

About what? Most of what he spews is confused, hate rhetoric, entirely un-biblical.

"The problems is white folks do not like to hear what their parents and grandparents did in the 30, 40, 50 and 60's. They discrimmated against an entire race - because they beleive they were better than others."

I'm sure that they did, denying it would be ludicrous, but the reason most white people don't want to hear it is that IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM.

Would you like to be judged on things your perceived ancestors did, centuries ago, based on the color of your skin?

Who's the racist now?

" We had to enact laws to stop "white folks" from treating other people bad. White folks hung people becuase they were different."

Now, instead of trying to address the problem, you want to invert it.

"What did the Rev Wright say that was not true.

Get real White Folks - we are not as evil and deceitful as you."

I'm not sure what you are, but you don't seem to be white. Regardless, I'll point out the fact that the blanket statement you just made is just about as hateful as they come.

"Obama will make a good president - he can not be as worse as the "white" presidents."

Actually, he'd be a terrible president.

Giving up personal responsibility? Socialism? Pandering to the enemy? He might as well just hand the keys to Mahmoud and Hugo.

This guy runs on other people's old, failed ideas, but he doesn't have the balls to elucidate them for his viewing audience, instead running on the "hope" and "unity" palaver.

To From Europe with Love, thanks so much for trying to open the American people on this blog eyes. Its a shame that in 2008 we still have people in my country arguing over race instead of the issues, and the troublesome realities that are happening in this world. America is the greatest country on this planet, we give more aid and more of our hard earned money than any other country, just why we have some Americans that just want to see us in ruins is beyond my comprehension. Thanks again Europe and God Bless.

Where in the years spent earning a living and raising my children did I miss our descent into this circus that is now unfolding? And where did these spiteful, odious "political operatives" come from? What ever happened to the issues?

There should be no mystery about the hateful tactics used by HRC and hubby.

These are a husband and wife team of TWO ATTORNEYS fighting against another husband and wife team of TWO ATTORNEYS over WHO GETS THE CORNER OFFICE.

Anyone who has ever witnessed such a conflict in a large law firm can fully understand what is happening here.

I think this is the first time in US history that such a contest has occurred. For that matter, I don't think a jusband and wife team of attorneys has ever occupied the oval office.

I don't know if a world which is run by lawyers is such a wise idea.

The only reason this is happening is that the people of Pennsylvania are being influenced by a delegate count that does not include Florida or Michagan. If those two states had been counted, the Pennsylvania would still be solidly in HRC's camp. The DNC has failed miserably in resolving the Florida and Michagan delegate situation to reflect the will of the people from those states! HRC now needs to take the issue to the courts.

Ummm....no. I was there. Literally. Until 1 a.m. on March 5th. When the primary polls closed at 7 p.m., most of the republican crossover voters (who went heavily to Hillary) went home. No way they were going to dedicate that much time and effort to choose the easier target for McCain. The caucus is much more reflective of authentic voting patterns here in Texas. And Obama handily won those.

Time for a change.

Don't let this election be about he said, she said, and especially not someone near him said, someone near her said. We cannot allow the Republicans to win the Presidency again. McCain, in his old age, has become a puppet of the same neo-cons who control Bush. We can't sit by and watch our country suffer because we did not get the exact Democratic candidate we wanted. The reports of the demise of HRC is premature. She will continue to exercise her right to campaign and Sen. Obama will slowly seal the deal but it will take until the Convention, we all need to take a chill pill and let it run its course. There are many surprises and twists and turns to yet be revealed, but eventually Obama will prevail and Clinton will go back to New York and await the results of the general election. If Obama loses, she will then strut around contending that if she had been the parties candidate, she would have won. And we will hear that song with different verses until she decides to not run again in New York. She and Al Gore will get to have pity parties together then. Just the way it will be, get used to it.

Call your local Exxon/Mobil gas station and tell the manager that you will not get your car repaired there, nor will you buy gasoline there until their parent company sets their price so that they can sell you gasoline for $1.75 a gallon. Then only do business with other gas stations. We will no longer stand for $3 a gallon gasoline.

There's one thing quite different in PA than in the other states where this has happened. In the last three weeks there were about 100,000 voters converting from R to D. "A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, but her father was a staunch Republican.

One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to high taxes and welfare programs. He stopped her and asked how she was doing in school.

She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA, but it was really tough. She had to study all the time and never had time to go out and party. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. On top of that, the part-time job her father insisted she keep left absolutely no time for anything else.

He asked, 'How is your friend Mary?' She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, didn't have a job, and went to all the parties. She was always complaining about not having any money, but didn't want to work. Why, she often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.

Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and request that 1.0 be taken off her 4.0 and given it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a respectable 3.0 GPA. Then, she could also give her friend half the money she'd earned from her job so that her friend would no longer be broke.

The daughter angrily fired back, 'That wouldn't be fair. I worked really hard for my grades and money, and Mary just loafs. Why should her laziness and irresponsibility be rewarded with half of what I've worked for?'

The father slowly smiled and said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party'."

AMERICA TAKE BACK THE FEDERAL RESERVE AND SAVE THE NATION FROM DEPRESSION 2008!!

America must Nationalize The Banking Industry and take back the Federal Reserve (FED) that was illegally privatized by the efforts of the Routhschiles in 1813. (Thomas D. Schauf, THE FEDERAL RESERVE IS A PRIVATELY OWNED CORPORATION, Americans Have Been Deceived and Stolen From by the Privately Held Federal Reserve Banking System, 1992)
The illegally privatized Federal Reserve directly causes the present financial crisis in 1813. The Great Depression of the twenties was directly cause by this grievous attribute greed of the private banks as they creamed a piece of the action off the top of all transactions made by Americans. This cartel presently consist of American banks and also are partly foreign owned and control the New York FED District Bank. First National Bank of New York James Stillman National City Bank, New York Mary W. Harnman National Bank of Commerce, New York A.D. Jiullard Hanover National Bank, New York Jacob Schiff Chase National Bank, New York Thomas F. Ryan Paul Warburg William Rockefeller Levi P. Morton M.T. Pyne George F. Baker Percy Pyne Mrs. G.F. St. George J.W. Sterling Katherine St. George H.P. Davidson J.P. Morgan (Equitable Life/Mutual Life) Edith Brevour T. Baker
How did it happen? History shows that after previous attempts to push the Federal Reserve Act through Congress, a group of bankers funded and staffed Woodrow Wilson's campaign for President pushed this legislation through congress during it’s recess. He had committed to his supporters to sign this act. Many presidents have tried to correct this travesty but were defeated by the investment of these bankers in their defeat! Even Wilson, who passed the legislation, Later stated, "I have unwittingly ruined my country"
As mentioned earlier, the Great Depression of the twenties was directly caused by the inaction of America's financial system for work project that were for the public good but not necessarily in initially profitable. Only the actions of President FDR, who made bold programs of public services, broke this depression through such programs as the CCC, and The Tennessee Valley Authority Dam projects. As soon as these public projects were successful and profitable, private industry took strong actions to privatize them and make big private profits. The Far Right Wing Republicans and G. W. Bush raised this privatization of essential public services to perfection!! This magnitude and intensity of this outsourcing and privatization has essentially emptied the public coffers and brought the US to the brink of another Greater Depression of 2008. George W. Bush and his cohorts have quietly dismantled more than a century of good regulatory history. If we truly are to have change in Washington, the changers must begin by restoring those proven, efficient and protective elements of the regulatory state. The essentially unregulated money institutions deliberately made sub prime loans to homebuyers, who had no obvious means of paying these loans. Then after the expected failure of the homebuyers to pay the mortgages the banks went into potential bankruptcy. G. W. and the Federal Government then saved the banks by bailing them out with federal funds. In addition, to save these banking criminals from jail they are pushing a law that will hold the CEOs’ faultless and decriminalize these corporate crimes! (Stanley Kutler,
The Decriminalization of Corporate Crime,http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20080329_kutler_march_29_in_the_wake_of_deregulation/, Posted on Mar 29, 2008)
Therefore, it is easily seen that the first step to regain the power of our nation is to Nationalize The Banking/money Industry or take back Federal Reserve, as we understand it!! (Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, Fed eyes Nordic-style nationalization of US banks, International Business, 31/03/2008)
In addition, our universities must regain the teaching philosophy, sociology, and humanities with a reevaluation of including the Creed of Greed for unadulterated profit beings one of the primary virtues!! America has allowed their Schools of Business to over grow and submerge their other Schools.

Hillary, Billary, Smellery, WHO CARES! Anyone who wants an evil being like this, one that will do ANYTHING to get elected, is not with it. She has left a trail of scandal all the way back to Arkansas. Her closet is overflowing with skeletons.
You all are dreaming anyway. She can't win....Obama is in!!

Anonymous said...

" If Obama loses by 10 or fewer, that's a win politically."

How odd this all sounds. I don't like Hillary at all, but winning PA by any margin is big news, combined with winning CA, NY, TX, OH, NJ, and other large states. These primary rules are really odd where someone can win the big states and yet be behind. I have been pulling for Obama, but he clearly is a weaker general election candidate than Hillary.

Have any of you ever thought that if we had keep or noses out of the Middle East with Ollie North and Reagan and the mujahideen or “Freedom Fighters”. There would not have been any 1st Gulf War, No Taliban, No Bin Laden, No al Qaeda, No 4,000 dead Soldiers possibly no Nuclear Iran and two big ass buildings in Manhattan would still be standing.
Maybe it is the mindset that led us to this juncture that we need to examine. I know some of you cannot comprehend this, but we could have avoided a lot of our troubles. I do not agree with Rev. Wright, but some chickens have come home.

Wright is to blacks what David Dukes is to whites. Imagine if McCain sat in on his meetings for 20 years. Obama and Hillary are both socialist, who cares which one the socialist, I mean democrats vote for.

Anonymous said...

Someone said Hillary would be the better general election candidate. But she has really strong negatives not only among Republicans but also a sizeable portion of the Democrat voters. Exit polling for the Democrat primaries always showed a large anti-Clinton vote. Even Clinton cronies have been abandoning her. That being said, Obama is also a weak general election candidate because he is just too liberal for most of the electorate and his statement calling pregnancy a "punishment" for a mistake will not win any favors in Pennsylvania.

Anonymous said...

These numbers are bogus as they do not include registered voters, but leaning voters. Any poll including registered voters shows HRC with a significant advantage. I live in Pittsburgh and (sorry to say) BO does not have a chance here given the demographics. She will win PA, IN, KY, WV as she won OH. The only loss will be NC.

Anonymous said...

We know the polling numbers are bogus. The real counting of votes will show HRC winning - not because of how people voted, but because of how the votes were counted - suspect fraud, again. Maybe big brother will force us into using purple ink on our thumbprints, and physically hand count votes in public.

It's kind of sad, I used to really respect McCain, but the fact that he allowed Rove/Bush to trash his family in 2000 and then sucked up to Bush for 8 years shows that his allegiance goes to Party first, over country and over family.

Remember when conservatives were against budget deficits instead of passing the bill onto the grandchildren? McCain knew Bush/Cheney were the most radical 'conservatives' the country has ever seen, but in order to still have a chance at 2008 he compromised all integrity on the war, on the economy, on moral values, on everything.

To me it's almost worse than Bush/Cheney, because they at least are pursuing an ideology, however flawed it might be, but McCain knows better and just doesn't care; he'll shake hads with people who slimed his daughter, just for a chance at the White House.

If being President were all about being a tough POW, he'd win. But it's not.

It will be a good day when ever voting citizen educates themselves about the candidates with real documented facts, rather than relying on the pablum spewed out by the corporate-owned media.

Obama is probably gonna lose Penn, but it really honestly doesn't matter at this point. The delegates in that state will most likely be split even or Obama will get more, and he's already won the nomination.

Team Hillary have abandoned Penn anyway and moved goalpost to Indiana.

They're afraid of Obama, when someone has to use their name to try and win a argument that is when you know their ideology is defeated. Remember people, desperate people take the easy hit, the winners take the clever one which is why Obama's campaign has thus far performed so amazingly against the Clinton dynasty.

The polls in Texas showed that Obama had closed the gap in the last day, some showing him pulling ahead by 3 points (Zogby).

What the polls could not predict was the impact of Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos which resulted in 149,000 Republican votes for Hillary. Considering that her margin of victory in the popular vote in Tx was only 119,000 or less than 4% the polls were not that far off.By this account Obama would have won by a slim 20,000 votes.

When true Democrats gathered at the caucus meeting on the evening of March 4, Obama won by double digits and again this weekend giving him 9 more delegates than allocated to HRC in Tx.

HRC is finished. All of her attempts to appeal to racism and people's most backward instincts will fail to get her over the top. Whether this poll is accurate or not, by April 22 the gap will be closed and the impact of bad news coupled with more revelations of resume padding etc... Obama will pull an upset in Pa. either by an outright win or a very narrow loss.

HRC has set a high expectation that will not be met. That is what all these polls are showing: a trend towards a virtual tie. Pa. will go down in History as her quagmire.

I am a dyed-in-the-wool Independent. I believe that Hillary, Barak, and McCain are in fact all intelligent, capable and well-intentioned people. All three have been twisted into caricatures that represent just a small part of the real person they are. I strongly believe Hillary's exposure on a daily basis to the presidency and her extremely policy-oriented tenure as First Lady makes her the wisest choice for president. But if she's not going to get the nomination, my only other choice is McCain, based simply on his familiarity with global issues and years of Senate experience. I really think Obama ia a fantastic person and a great inspiration for every American of what our nation can become. But he's not been in the U.S. Senate but three years and two months! Maybe if this was the 1996 or 2000 election, but right now we have some serious irreversible problems to cope with. And George W. Bush is the second worst President in U.S. history after James Buchanan. And Dick Cheney may prove to be the worst elected figure on the national level in the entire history of the U.S. His contempt for the people who will pay his pension and security protection for life, his arrogance and ego have been the single most lethal force in the world in this last decade. And remember 8 years ago about this Cheney to search for the best vice presidential candidate - and Cheney chose himself.

It doesn't matter if Sen. Obama wins Pennsylvania, as he is sure to win the nomination. While Barack's gains in PA, the state which the Clinton camp was basing their "key state" theory, may seem impressive - the Barack Obama campaign will have a significant challenge in the general election. While Barack's message of "change" has done well with his core supporters in the primary, the rest of the nation will be much more critical of great speaches which provide no specifics on the change. Eliot Spitzer is another democrat who campaigned on "change" and cleaning up corruption, and we can only expect that some voters will draw a connection between Spitzer and Obama as Democrats, even if it is unfair to do so. However, Barack Obama could take one simple step which would help his chances in the general election. Obama could call for a Federal Special Prosecutor to examine Eliot Spitzer's years as Federal and chief State prosecutor while he was doing business with organized crime. Such a step would define Obama's message of "Change", and elevate his position as being genuine and non-partisan in the eyes of voters who have not yet already committed themselves to Obama.

Yabba - I'm not sure you and I saw the same clips of Rev. Wright's sermons. (And I went over to the Fox website to get their complete Top Twenty Hits, maliciously plucked out of thirty years of context to sound as bad as they could possibly be made to sound.)

I'm a white guy, and I sure didn't feel like I was being hated on, especially when I took the trouble to listen to the whole of one of those sermons. Wright wasn't pointing his finger at white people in general, he was pointing his finger at the rich white people who run the country. And what he had to say about those people, with one exception, happened to be true.

The exception (a note to rlb-political) was the bit about HIV being invented by the government. It's easy to understand how that conspiracy theory got a foothold in the African-American community; after all, the government really did deliberately let black Mississippians die of syphilis, handing them sugar pills they claimed were medicine, in the Tuskegee experiments, as recently as the 1970s. But Wright has enough education to have known better. For me, that was the most wince-inducing clip.

I'd love to see someone put together a montage of the sayings of the Old Testament prophets talking about their own country. Just substituting "America" each time they mentioned "Israel". It would make even those worst cherry-picked moments from Wright's sermons sound like a love fest. Criticizing your own society and government in God's name, even pronouncing God's damnation and hatred upon it, is just part of the prophet's job description.

But then there's always a second, reconciling side to the Lord's message. Which is why, unlike Fox and the rest of the Gotcha Media, you're expected to sit and listen to the rest of the sermon. If you walk out in the middle, you didn't stay long enough to get the point, and you forfeit your right to complain.

Probably best to wait a few days and see how some of the other polls are going before saying HRC is in trouble in PA.

I understand there is an investigation going on into the possibility that the New Hampshire vote result was rigged.

More than midway through the voting process, the manual vote log had Obama winning, then when the Diebold machines issued the final count . . HRC had won.

It wouldn't surprise me if the other vote outcomes were rigged - after all, Bill Clinton did give a TV interview in which he stated "there are other ways to win the nomination"! ! Given that comment and their propensity for lying, along with HRC's desperation, I wouldn't pit it past them.

The other factor in those elections has also been the HRC last-minute lie bombs . .sending the flier to all the women of NH on election eve saying Obama did not support women's rights . . .and the 3.00 am ad in Teaxas and Ohio.

Mind you - looks like Texas has corrected itself now and Obama is actually coming out on top as the ultimate winner.

Somebody should tell all the working class of PA how many US jobs HRC has helped ship offshore to India and how she robbed the US tech workers - they have a right to know, also to know that she is #2 top recipient of lobby & special interest group monies - makes her TV ad running there look like another pack of lies!

If you give the Clintons enough time they always reveal themselves, and voters are appalled by what they see. The best thing for Hillary Clinton would be to lose and have to do some soul searching about how she's run this campaign. Maybe she would clean up her act enough to run for governor of New York. But the U.S. needs Clinton like it needs another natural disaster. No, thank you.

What I find amazing is the level of emotions that people have about their choice for candidates. To call obama a loser, or to refer to Clinton as a witch is a waste of time. if you want to defeat the republicans in the fall, all personal views must be put aside in the end, because if they're not,and the whitehouse is loss, you'll have ONLY yourselves to blame. On Clinton's part if her surrogates don't tone down the retoric, and the white house is lost, the talk will be " Did Clinton give the White house back to the Republicans?"( This is provided that Obama is the nominee.) When I read the various views of some of the writers, who were obviously not african-american, I have a author I want to recommend to you : Tim Wise. I not going to tell you about the book, but it is eye-opening. I have never in all my years heard anyone speak on the subject of race like this man,( if you are an african american, GET HIS BOOK! ) If there is one thing that I have gained in this election year,I would say that I have never heard the subject of race so talked about in an opended way among people of different ethnic groups. My hope is that we as a nation can at least learn something from this whole psocess.

Just because 'she has female plumbing' is not a reason!! The woman is incapable of honesty, and has no dignity. For her to be able to brush off that Bosnia story like it was a 'mistatement' is mind-blowing. It was a humilating lie! I don't know how she can show her face in public... then again, she was aware of the sexual assaults made by her husband and she herself threatened the women that sought justice.

The Clintons won't give up until the last vote is cast at the convention. And when that happens, they'll start undermining Obama in the hopes that he gets defeated and therefore set up another Hillary run in 2012.

Mark my words, this isn't done. At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if they suddenly announced that Chelsea was starting a political career and was going to run for Congress (she's just about old enough). To the Clintons, the presidency "belongs to them", and we're all just dumb idiots for not recognizing that.

I find it disturbing that so much of the discussion is about race and so little of it is about gender. Yes, it is time for a black President. It is also time for a female President. It is our misfortune in the Democratic Party that two very good candidates who fit these bills have come along in the same election cycle. What I don't understand is how many comments I see from African-American bloggers who insinuate that a vote for Clinton is a vote against Black Americans. Wouldn't the same then be true that a vote for Obama is a vote against women? I also find it disturbing that when Clinton makes a blunder (misrepresenting her time in Bosnia for example) it is front page news and she is blasted as a pathological liar who will stop at nothing to be President. Yet when Obama is caught in the same exagerations (his misrepresentation that the Kennedy family payed for the Kenyan airlift that brought his father to America) it barely makes the news. In just two newspaper articles this week, Clinton was described as hysterical, icy, contrived, bitter, and manipulative. These words are historically used in a pejorative way against women and are now part of the media's coverage of Clinton. Women and men alike should be outraged by this. But, no, we are supposed to be outraged only by racist vitriol. Obama's "spiritual advisors", Meeks and Wright, refer to white people in hateful ways and Meeks says dispicable things against gays and lesbians but, again, we brush this off. But if Geraldine Ferraro says a word against Obama she is suddenly branded a racist. It is all very sad and deflating.

Well the polls are snapshots of a sampling that the pollsters extrapolate to reach a conclusion. Sometimes right sometimes wrong. Kind of like betting on a horse.

But Hillary will win here just like she did in Ohio. She is out there telling people what that want to hear.

But no matter what either one of them says, those factory jobs are NOT COMING BACK.

If you own a business you are in business to make money. If you can lower the cost of producing your product you make more money.

The unions have their value but part of the history is that the union wage is more than some businesses want to pay.

Hillary is a great politican. I have to say that for her After telling that whopper she is still standing and going after the superdelegates.

She stands there and tells another whopper about Michigan. Michigan did not have a revote because the legislature was scared to death of the open to closed primary issue. It had little to do with Obama.

She never mentions that. Kind of a whopper by omission.

I started out supporting her but the fake victory celebration her in Florida turned me way off.

So I am with Johnny Mac now.

Hillary's Nasty Pastorate

Buzz up!

There's a reason why Hillary Clinton has remained relatively silent during the flap over intemperate remarks by Barack Obama's former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. When it comes to unsavory religious affiliations, she's a lot more vulnerable than Obama.

You can find all about it in a widely under-read article in the September 2007 issue of Mother Jones, in which Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet reported that "through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the "Fellowship," aka The Family. But it won't be a secret much longer. Jeff Sharlet's shocking exposé, The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power will be published in May

Sean Hannity has called Obama's church a "cult," but that term applies far more aptly to Clinton's "Family," which is organized into "cells" -- their term -- and operates sex-segregated group homes for young people in northern Virginia. In 2002, writer Jeff Sharlet joined the Family's home for young men, foreswearing sex, drugs, and alcohol, and participating in endless discussions of Jesus and power. He wasn't undercover; he used his own name and admitted to being a writer. But he wasn't completely out of danger either. When he went outdoors one night to make a cell phone call, he was followed. He still gets calls from Family associates asking him to meet them in diners -- alone.
The Family's most visible activity is its blandly innocuous National Prayer Breakfast, held every February in Washington. But almost all its real work goes on behind the scenes -- knitting together international networks of rightwing leaders, most of them ostensibly Christian. In the 1940s, The Family reached out to former and not-so-former Nazis, and its fascination with that exemplary leader, Adolph Hitler, has continued, along with ties to a whole bestiary of murderous thugs. As Sharlet reported in Harper's in 2003:

During the 1960s the Family forged relationships between the U.S. government and some of the most anti-Communist (and dictatorial) elements within Africa's postcolonial leadership. The Brazilian dictator General Costa e Silva, with Family support, was overseeing regular fellowship groups for Latin American leaders, while, in Indonesia, General Suharto (whose tally of several hundred thousand "Communists" killed marks him as one of the century's most murderous dictators) was presiding over a group of fifty Indonesian legislators. During the Reagan Administration the Family helped build friendships between the U.S. government and men such as Salvadoran general Carlos Eugenios Vides Casanova, convicted by a Florida jury of the torture of thousands, and Honduran general Gustavo Alvarez Martinez, himself an evangelical minister, who was linked to both the CIA and death squads before his own demise.

At the heart of the Family's American branch is a collection of powerful rightwing politicos, who include, or have included, Sam Brownback, Ed Meese, John Ashcroft, James Inhofe, and Rick Santorum. They get to use the Family's spacious estate on the Potomac, the Cedars, which is maintained by young men in Family group homes and where meals are served by the Family's young women's group. And, at the Family's frequent prayer gatherings, they get powerful jolts of spiritual refreshment, tailored to the already-powerful.

Clinton fell in with the Family in 1993, when she joined a Bible study group composed of wives of conservative leaders like Jack Kemp and James Baker. When she ascended to the senate, she was promoted to what Sharlet calls the Family's "most elite cell," the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast, which included, until his downfall, Virginia's notoriously racist Senator George Allen. This has not been a casual connection for Clinton. She has written of Doug Coe, the Family's publicity-averse leader, that he is "a unique presence in Washington: a genuinely loving spiritual mentor and guide to anyone, regardless of party or faith, who wants to deepen his or her relationship with God."

Furthermore, the Family takes credit for some of Clinton's rightward legislative tendencies, including her support for a law guaranteeing "religious freedom" in the workplace, such as for pharmacists who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions and police officers who refuse to guard abortion clinics.

What drew Clinton into the sinister heart of the international right? Maybe it was just a phase in her tormented search for identity, marked by ever-changing hairstyles and names: Hillary Rodham, Mrs. Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and now Hillary Clinton. She reached out to many potential spiritual mentors during her White House days, including new age guru Marianne Williamson and the liberal Rabbi Michael Lerner. But it was the Family association that stuck.

Sharlet generously attributes Clinton's involvement to the underappreciated depth of her religiosity, but he himself struggles to define the Family's theological underpinnings. The Family avoids the word Christian but worship Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the "meek." They believe that, in mass societies, it's only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God's "dominion" on earth. Insofar as the Family has a consistent philosophy, it's all about power -- cultivating it, building it, and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or "cells." "We work with power where we can," Doug Coe has said, and "build new power where we can't."

Obama has given a beautiful speech on race and his affiliation with the Trinity Unity Church of Christ. Now it's up to Clinton to explain -- or, better yet, renounce -- her longstanding connection with the fascist-leaning Family.

Get it right about Obama's church. It's not just Rev. Wright. He's just putting the entire philosophy of the chuch into works. Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing and is more dangerous than anyone realizes. HRC is a self serving liar. McCain is a wimp but at least he has a moniker of integrity. God help us all.

When the city of Paris made Abu Jamal an honorary citizen, Ms. Davis picked up the parchment for him. Another supporter was the late actor Ossie Davis.

A number of Abu Jamal advocates have started their own websites; one of them, freemumia.org, is run by longtime Trotskyite communist Jeff Mackler of the California Federation of Teachers; Mackler is also the National Secretary of Socialist Action.

Among the organizations to publicly declare their solidarity with Abu Jamal are the Committees of Correspondence, Refuse and Resist, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the National Lawyers Guild, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Products, the International Action Center, and the NAACP. The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, whose officials frequently speak at "Free Mumia" rallies, has filed an amicus curiae brief on Abu Jamal's behalf. Another notable backer is International ANSWER, which, at its massive March 14, 2004 anti-war rally, played a videotaped message from Abu Jamal, recorded in his prison cell, to the cheering throngs in attendance

ACTION ALERT: Urgent Letter-writing Campaign!

Please write to Governor Edward Rendell of Pennsylvania.

Here is a sample letter you may want to use.
Be sure to *sign it* and mail it to the address below.

********** Start of Sample Letter **********

Governor Edward Rendell
225 Main Capitol Bldg.
Harrisburg, PA 17120

Dear Governor Rendell,

Substantial evidence of Mumia Abu-Jamal's innocence has arisen since his trial in 1982 and has been unfairly disallowed in state and federal courts, including a confession from Arnold Beverly who agreed to testify! Beverly stated that he himself was hired to shoot Officer Faulkner and that Mumia Abu-Jamal is innocent of the 1981 shooting. There are also grave concerns about the fairness of Mumia Abu-Jamal's trial and State appeal. These include:

- Witnesses who have testified in PCRA hearings that they were coerced by police to change their testimony.

- His trial lawyer failed to aggressively defend the case, did not investigate or obtain crucial experts in pathology or ballistics.

- Police planted evidence and intimidated witnesses in his case.

- Common Pleas Judge Albert Sabo displayed bias and hostility toward Abu-Jamal and should have recused himself.

We urge your intervention to guarantee that justice is done; that Mumia Abu-Jamal receive a new hearing and that he be released immediately, given the fact that definitive evidence has been produced proving his innocence!

Sincerely,

McCain supporters can't spelled, that's how we got Bush. Get educated, read, become a liberal Democrat. Stop looking at FOX News. Perhaps you will stop supporting rich conservative Republicans, that have no respect or concern for you or your family. You may vote republican but you are not one of them, because you are too poor and they won't stop abusing you until you are collecting food stamps. We want you in the new club
"We the People". Turn off the T.V. and read, learn to critically think for yourself.

Most people by now probably know in their gut that McCain will win the general election by a small margin.

My guess is that even if Obama loses the general election, a lot of voters at least want to be able to say that they supported a black man for president. Supporting Hillary is a double loss.

Anonymous said...

While no supporter of the 3 candidates the only experienced candidate is McCain. I never believe these polls that are controlled by one of the Dems. Despite others Rev Wright is a racist and his videos and writings will will always be attached to Obama for supporting these views. I ams surpised that it took the media or should I say HRC months until the public became aware of his tirades.

Anonymous said...

Doug is right the T.V. is powerful, especially when you out spend your opponent 5 to 1, like Obama is doing. If Obama remembers the good times when he could do this let him beware the last 8 weeks of the election. The Republicans love "the nuclear option", which in this case is Race. We will all be nostalgic for mild Hillary and her powder puff commercials. "Just you wait Henry Higgins, just you wait and see".

Anonymous said...

As previous posters have noted HRC may still win PA; however she needs a HUGE win and that now appears unlikely. A narrow victory for Clinton is effectively a loss... will she concede for the good of the party? Of course not...

Anonymous said...

Your way off. How about telling the truth for once. I work in thre polling field. NO polls show what your saying here. NONE!!! look for Hillary to win by about 8-10% mark these words.

I think HRC has openly lied, and she is married to an exit president that was impeached for lying to the American People "blantantly."

I just wonder what type of people like being lied too...

Hey , I just took a poll and HRC is ahead 60% - 40%

Anonymous said...

When was this poll taken? After this past weekend with all the vocal gaffaws by Obama regarding abortion and other actions, he would be showing that he's nothing but a empty suit. All the people I'm in contact told me that they will not vote for him now and they will not vote for his IF he makes it to the general election.
Besides, all polling should be taken with a grain of salt.

Anonymous said...

I read the atticle and could not stop laughing...Why is this the only poll that shows Obama ahead? When all other polls show her way ahead...and does anyone really believe in polls? All polls do is question a few thousand people and determine based on that which the last time I checked there are more then just a few thousand voters in each state (except Alaska)...I was an undecided voted since I was not 100% sure who I was going to vote for, but I have been leaning to HRC, since I believe she is the most qualified person, I do not care about gender or race only the topics that will effect my family...Obama in my opinion is nothing but a smouth talker and there is just alot about him that is unknown and due to our state of economics in this country, I do not believe we can afford any suprises. Therefore if HRC does not win the nomination, I will have no choice then to vote for McCain and put up with the Rep. for another 4 years, which is better then being suprised by Obama.

GO HRC...YOUR OUR ONLY HOPE.

I think Hillary's pattern of lying is hurting her worse then Obama's poor judgement about Wright. Even if she wins in PA it doesn't matter.

This things over. There is no scenario for Hillary to win the primary without destroying the party and any chance of vistory in Nov.

Realclearpolitics has HRC ahead by 6 as of this date. I think this is much more reliable source for where the two stand now in PA.

Hillary is fundamentally a dishonest person. If the truth is in her I haven't been able to tell. Some of her lies include: 1)I don't know how the Rose Law billing records were found in the white house, 2)Chelsea was nearly killed during the World Trade Center incident as she was jogging around towers at the time, 3)she learned how to turn $1,000 into $100,000 in the cattle futures market by reading the wall street journal, and 4), the current classic, she landed in Bosnia under gunfire. If you are being shot at, you know that you are being shot at. Your perception of reality can't be that distorted to get a little confused - especially when the reality was so different from the lie. Its no wonder Obama wasn't hurt by Rev Wright.

Are you kidding? Bill's infidelity is the only reason this woman has a candidacy. A strong emotional resonance for the "scorned women" of this country. It's entirely us guys' fault; to beleive her candidacy is based on anything but that is naiive.

To Anonymous of 3:57 PM:

It is unbelievable to me, after all of the race baiting by Brother Bill, after Hillary's campaign "blacking-up" Obama's face on campaign ads, after "Fast Eddie" Rendell's comments, that you would still be concerned about Republican race-baiting.

This Democratic primary season has certainly destroyed one racial myth; specifically, the myth of Democrat party color-blindness. The establishment white Democrats' reaction to Obama's successes are showing the world what we Republicans have known all along: white Democrats are fine with minority equality on the plantation, as long as Whitey's the one that owns it.

But I guess it's easier than actually standing up and changing the station. Plus the petty thrill of being mean-spirited to strangers helps alleviate the empty feeling inside. For a while.

Keep on fooling yourselves that you're good people.

This Blog is a joke. Half of everyone here is trying to provoke a response by writing something negative. At least a quarter of people blogging are actually for a different candidate and only a small percentage believe the crap they are spewing.

I have been a both a Republican and a Democrat and I was convinced that nothing could be worse than W and we have to get a Dem in office.

The sad part is both Dems are dopes and while I share little in common with McCain I actually think I will vote for him. Go figure!

Anonymous said...

RACE.... it is every bit a part of this debate as anything else. Obama is black (sometimes), his preacher is (I am sure being cast a complete crazy racist) black, and this election will come down to will White America vote for a Black man with a Muslim name versus a White (Old establishment) war hero?

In the end we are too divided and too scared of what that would actually mean. I think the dems will lose this and they only have themselves to blame. Shame on you DNC for letting this get to this point. Don't count the Michigan and Florida delegates because it is changing the rules but manipulate the rules to have the super delegates make up their mind before the convention. This reeks!!

It looks as if the Clinton Dream Team Machine has told one lie too many. Bosnia will not go away. In the face of fading support I guess she got desperate.

Just a few months ago we were told Hillary Clinton Will Be The Next President. It wasn't to be.

Three people running for President and all three of them can be loose with the truth. I do not feel good about this election.

SadForUsAll,

While not personally an OpChaos volunteer, I think the whole thing has been worthwile.

The extended sparring between Clinton and Obama has forced the media to expose the flaws of both candidates, something they would have never done had one of these guys won the nomination already and were facing McCain. Because you've gotta admit...once the General Election season gets here, it's going to be curtains on any information negative to the Democrat nominee. The media won't do it, and McCain has pretty much already decided to fight the Dems with one arm tied behind his back for the purposes of "civility".

So...to me, playing your part to drag this slugfest along is doing a valuable public service, much like "volunteering in your community" or "paying attention to your kids". Because you and I both know, if Hill or Hussein win the White House, they'll certainly be paying attention to my kids.

And not in a good way :(

Obama ahead in PA. This is April Fools, right? You must be kidding.

Just to clear this up...OBAMA WON TEXAS! People seem to forget that there was a caucus that night as well that held 1/3 of the state delegates. All reported statistical analysis of the caucus results (because of the odd way Texas is done the full results are not known) have shown a win for Obama in the caucus that is large enough to give him the state of Texas in both the popular vote and delegates. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! The media is the fuel here....democrats are destroying each other...FALSE! Any democrat that would vote for McCain over the other candidate in the party is a fricking idiot!

AGAIN? Why oh Why do Democrates put up with "Mis-speaking", or as anyone with any brains would call it,,,, "LYING" by both of these candidates? Obama spent 20 years in church and apparently didnt hear a word the preacher was saying? Hillary escaped sniper fire and spiraled in?

I'm still voting for Hillary!!

I don't take my guidance from a bunch of men, pundents or otherwise.

Anonymous said...

What, so now Clinton and Obama are child molesters? Please.

I actually think all three remaining candidates are better than the last 8 years, but I again go back to the Operation Chaos morons who think they're performing some kind of public service by subverting democracy. Get real, if Romney and McCain were neck and neck, you'd be casting your votes in that race, instead of trying to help your chances in November. If the party positions were reversed I'd still call it a perversion of everything this country stands for.

Vote fraud is un-American. It is unpatriotic. It represents a philosophy where the ends justify any means no matter how unethical and slimy along with a belief that if the majority of Americans don't agree with Operation Chaos, find a way to cheat the majority of Americans.

And if you read that and say 'Yeah, so?' then you've proven my point and maybe in the grand scheme of things it's best if we become the next England and let China and India take the wheel in terms of world dominance.

I think it is self explanatory why Obama should get the nod. He clearly has demonstrated that he is a fighter and capable of organizing and energizing groups of people that usually are apathetic and un-reliable for support. Barack also addresses issues of racist candidly and that's important. I wish he had a universal healthcare policy, it would be very good for this country if there was one. It has potential to be the best system since Canada's embracing of universal healthcare, but maybe Americans need to take it slow and through Barack Obama one day all americans will have the right to universal health care. Hilary unfortunately was branded unlikeable even before the contest started, and despite showing how effective she is in the senate perhaps like Kerry she isn't exactly the most genuine person to represent the party. People voted for Bush twice because they could relate to him, Hilary is unrelate-able to many demographics because the fact is she is a womun who believes she needs to present herself as one of the boys. I think Versace was right when she said that maybe Hilary could wear a dress now and then and show that she is a graceful intelligent womun. It's lke she forgot that womyn don't need to wear shoulder pads to be accepted, that she would be a stronger candidate if people would believe she was who she said she is. Anyway Barack will crush Mc Cain, the American people try to be pragmatic, they stick to traditions and one tradition is they don't elect old people. I like Mc Cain in a chummy kind of way, but he sounds like my WWII & Korea Vet. Uncle who believes there will be a civil war in this country. Endearing to hear but not pragmatic or realistic at all. Barack is young virile and a step away from those who have been in washington so long they have entitlement issues. I mean Ann Coulter is right when she says Mc Cain is like a power hungry guy who couldn't get laid in his teens. Barack seems happy domesticated and stronger than Hilary. At least to me he does and that should matter because after 8 years of apathy due to an unresponsive legislative body and a president who somehow scared everyone into supporting most of his idealistic expansionist dreams I actually care about leadership strength again.

By the way, I bet you $5 that Obama is going to choose Richardson for V.P. It will offset the latino vote Richardson has a really good resume and most of those traditionalist latino's may in fact ignore the republican family model which is important to us Latino's if we see Barack partnering with someone who has had our best interests for the majority of his Career.

I mean why else would Richardson a Clinton loyalist risk his friendship if he wasn't on a short list for president.

Peace out

Hillary wants my children to be able to sue me when they don't like they way I run my house. Obama wants kindergartners to be taught sex ed in kindergarten. So no, not backing down from my previous theme: Both dems have an unhealthy interest in children.

Your Romney/McCain statement makes my point. Dems mucked with the Republican primary by crossing party lines in order to help elect McCain, a republican candidate who is two issues away from being just another Democratic candidate. That has resulted in Repubs having a candidate that misrepresents the ideology of their party.

So...why the problem now with Rush and his crew turning the tables? All it can do is keep the primary going on longer. Unfortunately, we can't cause the Dems to pick a near-Republican as their nominee...that would be sweet justice indeed.
