We're going to poll Massachusetts and South Carolina this weekend. Important states for 2012 and it's been a long time since we looked at either so we're making a rare executive decision to do those rather than having a vote this week.
As always we appreciate your question suggestions:
-In Massachusetts who should we poll against Scott Brown? I think we'll probably look at 5 or 6 different people.
-Anything we should ask about in Massachusetts besides the races for Senate/President and the approval questions we do in every state?
-I figure our South Carolina poll will end up being pretty similar to our Iowa poll from this morning in terms of content. Anyone else whose favorability we should look at or any other questions we should ask about the Republican field?
-And any non-GOP Presidential race related question ideas you might have for South Carolina would be appreciated as well.

Poll a primary challenger against Scott Brown....Elizabeth Warren in primary + general...maybe Ed Markey too.
Oh, and might as well see MA approval for gay marriage, seeing as they have had it for close to six years. I assume dog-man and woman-toaster-tree marriages aren't commonplace, but let's see.

^might be too specific, but this has got me thinking.
In 2007, I think, someone did a national poll asking something akin to "Assuming they were otherwise qualified and had similar views as you, would you vote for an (blank) for President?"
And blank was filled in with "African American, Woman, Gay, Catholic, Mormon, Muslim, Atheist" etc. It got a lot of attention and I don't think one has been done since.
Considering the Republican primary has an African American candidate (Cain), two potential women candidates (Palin and Bachmann), and two Mormon candidates (Romney and Huntsman), it's certainly relevant to see what segment of the electorate holds bias and resentment towards certain groups.

There we go. There were a few other good questions in there too. I really think it would be neat to poll it again...it's the type of poll you'd only have to do every couple of years.
I think it would be interesting to poll Massachusetts residents on the topic of collective bargaining and same-sex marriage.
In SC, test Lindsey Graham against a generically more conservative candidate in a 2014 primary.
Definitely a Haley vs Sheheen rematch. Think there would be some interesting results there.

Jim DeMint announced today that he is mulling a run for President. Sure would be nice to see how he stacks up in the primaries as well as against President Obama in 2012.
I would like to see how Sonia Chang-Diaz and Elizabeth Warren fare in MA.
Does Jim DeMint, who's now asking God to tell himwhether to run for President, do ANYTHING for South Carolina, or does he just draw a paycheck from taxpayers here?
Perhaps a Lynch vs. Sonia Chang-Diaz primary matchup for the Congressional District, but PPP should definitely poll Chang Diaz in a Senate matchup.
For Massachusetts, definitely Joe Kennedy III, Rep. Capuano, Rep. Lynch, Mayor Warren, Alan Khazei, Bob Massie, and Elizabeth Warren. Maybe Sonia Chang-Diaz and/or Rep. Markey as well.
I second the request for gay marrieage popularity in both states. One state is Deep South where it will be unpopular and the ohter is the most liberal state in the union where gay marriage was first legalized.
MA: Would be really interested in some specific Romney-related questions.

I also like the idea of asking the "would you support a candidate who was a (blank)" question. It would be interesting to compare the results between two states that are very different politically, and it could also get a lot of attention.
A rematch question for Governor in both states would also be good. Maybe another Mark Sanford question in South Carolina to see how people feel about him now that he's been gone for a while.

You could ask Mass. voters whether they'd rather see Warren at the CFPB or in the Senate race. I think, and hope, this would result in their recommending her for the CFPB spot. That's not to say she wouldn't be good to test for Senate, or that those voters would necessarily not want her in that race if she isn't tapped for the CFPB.
As to the re-do polls that are on the minds of so many followers of your polling company lately:
A Haley-Sheheen re-match would sure as hell be interesting, of course. We've seen that united Republican governments beget buyers' remorse, but Dems Dayton and Perdue seem to be on the up-and-up. That means either being Democrats or being in a divided government protects a Governor. A Massachusetts re-match poll for Governor (including Green Jill Stein and at least the very well performing independent Tim Cahill) would perhaps settle the matter.

In Massachusetts, I'd like to see if the high profile ad war between Scott Brown and the League of Women Voters over EPA regulation of greenhouse gasses has put forward any results. Are people more informed on the issue? Do they side with the LWV? Do they side with Brown?
To make a comparison between Senators, it would be interesting to see a hypo matchup between Scott Brown and John Kerry.

As for SC, please poll a Haley/Sheheen rematch, as well as senatorial favorable ratings and Pres head-to-heads. Maybe even do gay marriage here, just to poll the floor of the country on an issue like this
Don't bother polling gay marriage in Massachusetts. The question is academic--they already have it there.
Find out if MA voters prefer Romneycare or Obamacare.
Maybe see how many are willing to switch from Romneycare to a single-payer system like Vermont's.

Yes, we all know Romney is going to win there, but Massachusetts isn't a winner-take-all state, so a strong second-place contender could also snag a significant number of delegates.
BTW, you may also want to just poll an "approval rating" of Massachusetts health care, i.e., "Do you think the current health care system in MA is good or bad?"

Polling gay marriage is important, and is not, as one commenter above suggested, "academic."
The opposition to gay marriage is based on claims that it will hurt families and harm society. Accordingly, it is extremely useful to poll individuals in MA as to how gay marriage has affected them or their families, if at all. MA has the longest history with gay marriage, now over 7 years.
A similar question was posed in IA in a poll by the Des Moines Register. 92% of respondents said that the introduction of gay marriage had no impact. I believe 3 or 4 percent said they didn't know. And 4 percent or thereabouts said that it has had an impact, although the poll did not break that down into positive and negative impacts.
So even though gay marriage is likely here to stay in MA, that state's experience with it is informative to all of the other states considering it.
