In 2004
Richard Burr's approval issues have been well documented for months because
We actually found in December that 41% of voters in the state thought DeMint was most focused on being a national leader in the conservative movement while only 29% believed his top priority was advocating for the state.
Georgia gets polled more than South Carolina but the surveys there have been heavily focused on the Governor's race and the in state pollster that had shown solid numbers for Johnny Isakson was Strategic Vision sooooo I wouldn't exactly take those to the bank. I've thought Isakson might be more vulnerable than the conventional wisdom going all the way back to November of 2008 when we found his approval at just a 30/25 spread with 44% of voters holding no opinion.
Rasmussen had a new poll out yesterday showing Isakson under 50% on the generic ballot. Given that 57% of Georgians disapprove of Barack Obama it seems like Isakson should be in a much better position.
Of course Democrats are missing one key ingredient if they're going to make a race of it in Georgia and South Carolina- candidates. But there's still time, and as Jim Martin showed in Georgia two years ago you can enter the race late and make it pretty competitive.
Certainly if the political climate in November is the same as it is now Democrats would have little chance in either of these states but it's possible that things will be different by the fall. I'll be interested to see how (or if) these races develop and we'll have Georgia numbers next week to give a clearer idea of just how endangered Isakson is.

The same poll has Obama at a 48/40 approval. It's a junk poll.
GOP trouble? South Carolina and Georgia are two of the 10 Senate races Democrats haven't yet fielded a credible candidate. As of right now "Generic Democrat" is the only name on the ballot. Go to http://www.dscc.org/races and you'll find that they only list a Democrat in one of those races. There are two candidates listed for South Carolina but there's no biography, website link, or donation button. If you want to be critical of Bob Menendez start there.
The Republicans have yet to field credible opponents in six races, but John Cornyn is reportedly burning up the phone lines in Oregon, New York, and Wisconsin.
Tom, Thanks, I see that you're polling Georgia that finished second, am I right that you will also poll OK-02 Dan Boren? Thank You so much for your work! I appreciate it tremendously!
Yes we are doing OK-2
Agreed, Dave. Intrade already gives a generic Republican a 35% chance of victory in NY and a 45% chance of victory in WI. Pataki already has outpolled Gillibrand and Thompson has already outpolled Feingold. Since Democrats are struggling in so many of their fundraising states (e.g. IL, CA, DE, MA, RI, CT, NY, PA, OH, MI, IN, FL) and have strong challenges to leader Reid and committee chairs Lincoln and Boxer and the retirement of banking chair Dodd, Democrats will struggle just to play defense. There will be enough demands on leadership PACs and special interest treasuries and party coffers just to defend against losing the majority. Incumbent Democrats will get first dibs on fundraising and will be less able to raise funds for challenger candidates when they are struggling to safe their own electoral careers.
Cornyn has until July in five of those six states. He needs an Oregon candidate by a week from Tuesday. That's not easy.
Five deadlines for Republican seats are over the course of 14 days starting 3 weeks from now.
