Obama takes the lead in Pennsylvania

Barack Obama 45
Hillary Clinton 43

Barack Obama has taken the lead in Pennsylvania, a remarkable turnaround after trailing Hillary Clinton by 26 points in a PPP poll in the state just two and a half weeks ago.

Obama's steep rise could be a reflection of a growing sense among Democratic voters that a continued divisive nomination process will hurt the party's chances of defeating John McCain this fall. An Obama upset in Pennsylvania would be virtually certain to force Clinton out of the race.

Obama has his customary large advantage with black voters (75-17) and is keeping it relatively competitive with white voters (49-38)

He leads across all age groups except senior citizens and balances Clinton's 10 point lead with women with his own 15 point lead with men.

Full results here.

I had a feeling this was going to happen in PA, sooner rather than later. I love HRC but she's not going to get the nomination, and it's time to rally around Obama so he can start whaling on Bush 2. Full disclosure: I voted for HRC here in Los Angeles.

Unknown said...

My faith in the intelligence of the Pennsylvania voter is restored.

Anonymous said...

I also had a feeling this was going to happen, since polls in competitive states (i.e., New Hampshire, Ohio and Texas) seem to always show Obama winning before the election. Of course, these polls are usually wrong. When Clinton has a big lead in a state a few weeks before an election, she usually wins, and it's weird that the polls almost always suggest otherwise right before the election.

chris hrc is a loser so is hussein obama and the rest of all democrates

Anonymous said...

Chris, You're a loser
and so is HRC!

Tihs happens in every state. Clinton is leading by about 25 points, then the state pays attention to the election, a week before the election Obama and Hillary are within 5 points of each other (Obama is usually winning), THEN 3 days before the state votes something crazy happens (The Clinton NAFTA lie, Hillary cries, whatever) that makes Obama look bad and the vote moves towards Hillary in the final 3 days. Right now Hillary is planning her final 3 days before Pennsylvania votes.

Baloney! The PPP poll is bogus. All the other REAL poll have Hilllary way ahead. This just another attempt by the Democratic establishment & the media to dictate to the voters.

HRC is not a monster. She is Dracula. Anyone who thinks that she will give up is in for a surprise. The only way to stop her is with a stake through her heart or Obama reaching the magic number of delegates. Otherwise she a like the horror pictures of old. Never dieing and always rising from the dead.

Anonymous said...

Why was the Texas poll wrong? Obama won that state in terms of delegates.

Unknown said...

Anonymous, you may be right. This could just be a setup to stage another "comeback kid" scenario for Clinton.

Anonymous said...

No, no, no. This is exactly what happened in Ohio. Obama starts out trailing by a huge amount, mounts a comeback, which gets everyone all excited, and then falls back, losing substantially. In the end, a good performance is dubbed a huge loss. Chances are very slim Obama won't win Pa. The key is to keep this in mind.

I can't understand how you dem's put up with the lying comming from both your candidates. They are blatant liars!!!

I think it's clear every candidate wants change but you vote for the black guy who gets supported by rascists black panthers that want revenge on whites. How do you vote for a guy like this over a veteran like McCain. Show's you just have no knowledge and no respect.

I must admit that I am surprised that any poll has Obama leading. I do expect him to keep it close, but Clinton has the advantage that she has had in most big states - most of the big name politicians are in her corner. It would be difficult to see a scenario, in which, he won Pa over her.

Anonymous said...

This is great news. Once Obama has more then half the projected and pledged delegates (about 1600) he can declare victory.

Anonymous said...

the Texas polls were not wrong! Clinton won the vote. It was Obama's cry babies and bullies that fixed the caucus.

To bad for Obama that there is no national caucus. But then his cry baby supporters will liley riot after he loses by a landslide.

Hillary, Obama, McCain, does it really matter? Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like America Deceived (book) from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Write in Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.

Anonymous said...

Don't be fooled! Just like New Hampshire, Texas, and Ohio, this is another opportunity for HRC to be the "comeback kid." In those states, she had a huge advantage, and was never really in danger. But somebody...MSM?...started talking about how the races might become competitive. All the time knowing full well that she would win, but that spinning the win as a comeback would enhance her political viability. You Obama folks -- do not relax!

I live in Pennsylvania and I support Obama. But, it just seems that as soon as the advertisements started running on TV, the polls reflected the shift. The power of TV is undeniable but I would wish that the electorate were more sophisticated or that TV were less persuasive. Alas, welcome to American politics.

Unknown said...

It's true. I am a loser. What the nation needs is 8 more years of George Bush, because it doesn't get any better than this. What a huge success he has been!!!

This poll is just another attempt by the left wing lying liberals IE, Obama Hussien supporters, to over ride Hillary via voter dictation. Most Dem voters are so narrow minded and will believe anything the medias says....kinda like mind numb robots. Thank God for the GOP voters in OH and TX that saved Hill. ....signed another GOP in support of Hill. *smooch*

To me it's surprising she is actually still in this.

Go Obama!

Unknown said...

Obama has more experience as an elected official than Hillary Clinton. He was a state senator for 8 years and by November, will have been a U.S. senator for 4 years. Couple that with his work as a community organizer and activist and you do have what it takes along with his good judgement, integrity, the respect he shows to the voter and to his political opponents, the work he's done in the U.S. senate, etc. Lee Hamilton will endorse him today, “I read his national security and foreign policy speeches," Hamilton told Bloomberg News today, "and he comes across to me as pragmatic, visionary and tough.:http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/04/barack-obama-ge.html

Barack is running for president, not his pastor, shows just how desperate the opposition is to fiind something... anything to tar him with but the voters are smarter than that. McCain has Hagee and Parsley and Clinton has Manning's weird praise. The fact that all three candidates have pastor problems but only Barack is being attacked, says a a lot about the bias in the media and the desperation of his opponents.

No wonder you all post as "Anonymous." I wouldn't want my name associated with such basic ignorance of the English language either!

Obama will win by a narrow margin in PA, and then it's curtains for HRC...and once Obama is in office, all you ignoramuses are going to find yourselves on the wrong side of history.

Anon...Hillary at zero hour cried, 'Shame on you Barack Obama' and smearred him while they campaigned in OHIO saying it was his campaign that did the 'wink, wink' with Canada and NAFTA. This led to Obama losing voters. When the dust settled, it was learned in fact that it was the Clinton campaign that did the wink, wink with Canada. She dupped Ohio out of votes which was the only way she won Ohio by such a large number. I would expect another foul cry from the Clinton campaign days before PA votes

How can any HRC fan complain that Obama won by the caucus in Texas when they plan on HRC taking the nomination by a caucus of super delegates. That makes no sense. But that seems to be the democrat way. Complain about something unless it works for you. The electoral college doesnt work until you lose the popular vote and then you thihnk it works. Right HRC?

Anonymous said...

I live in Ohio. I voted for Obama.

I think the polling here was pretty accurate.

Clinton had a 20 point lead that narrowed to single digits in the week before the primary (March 4).

The support of our governor helped a lot, especially in the southeastern part of our state where some counties voted for her by 3-1, 4-1 margins.

If anything, I'm a little suspicious of this poll.

Yesterday, Rasmussen reported a five point lead for Clinton.

Think Gallup still has her in double digits.

If the primary were held today, I think Clinton would win by a margin in the high single digits.

Her problem has been that the longer she's been engaged with Obama in a state, the worse her numbers become.

That trend could be accelerated in Pennsylvania where she's being outspent heavily.

It is ashame Bill Clinton had to have sexual relationships with women who are not his wife. I think that rubs off on Hillary reducing her poll standing. Plus his poor daughter is out there fielding these affair questions. Thanks a lot, dad!

Methodological problems:
1) Tremendously irresponsible of a polling firm not to report the margin of error prominently when reporting poll results. The margin of error on this poll is 2.8 percentage points. You have no right to reject the null hypothesis that the candidates are tied. (And that would probably be a better way to present these results.)

2) If you add up the Clinton/Obama/Undecided vote, it adds up to 101 percent. So, are Obama and Clinton actually closer than 2 percentage points if you carried the poll results out to one decimal point? Why not do this?

These are the sorts of things that really undermine polling firm credibility.

Or is it just me?

Also, I'm addending a clause to Godwin's Law (look it up): anyone who uses Barak's middle name in the debate automatically looses it.

Coming from PA, I really cannot see the state going for Obama, either now or in November. Obama is the only candidate deserving of the presidency at this point. Hillary can't keep her story straight, not to mention Bill's a nutcase anymore. And McCain's only going to perpetuate the war even more and doesn't seem too afraid to pull the trigger.

I'm not completely anti-Republican, but McCain is slightly less undeserving of my vote than Bush was, based solely on the fact he can actually speak to a crowd without looking like an ass.

For all the republicans that post here, I ask, How can you vote for a man who feels it's appropriate to say that he "will always hate the gooks" because of past experiences?

Talk about a great mentality for our president to have. We're going from one with a lower IQ than salt to one who's a stubborn, grudge-holding racist? I'll move to Canada.

I grew up in rural Western PA. Still have relatives there and go back regularly. I hate to say it but I believe James Carville's description of PA as Pittsburgh and Philly surrounded by Alabama.

It's hard to see it when you're growing up there. I really had to leave to fully understand it.

I love PA and the people who live there. They have so much to recommend them--hard working, earnest, etc...

But they have their imperfections--we all do. Except the undercurrents of racism (mostly born from ignorance as opposed to in-bred hatred) that I have heard time and again from rural Pennsylvanians (my own parents, I'm sad to say) will keep Obama from winning and help Clinton in PA.

That said, the polls are closing-he's winning in one, 5 pts in another, and 9 points in a third. That's a good sign, if you just take the average of those polls. But as others have stated we saw similar movement in OH & TX and Obama couldn't eake out a win in either primary.

Here's where expectations come in. In both OH & TX, Obama was hoping for a knock out blow as he was on a 10 state roll. No one is expecting him to win or even be close in PA. If he can keep expectations low and use PA to call himself the COMEBACK KID or Apollo Creed or whatever and not let Hillary rhetorically turn this into something more than it is--then hopefully a small win for Hillary can look like a loss for her.

I would suggest a warning to those who feel so confident in McCain's ability to trounce someone in a debate or in the public eye.

Take a good look at him and how he projects what he says. I respect all he has done and that he is a man of conviction (to some degree) but the man is past his prime. Its like watching Babe Ruth right before he dies giving a speech at Yankee Stadium. If you feel he will destroy Obama in a debate, think again. He better rely on scaring the crap out of America because he is not a good speaker at all.

Whites are still getting privileges for being white. Have YOU ever gotten stopped for Driving While White? Ha ha ha

By the way since your family didn't get here until the 70's does that also mean you don't have to pay your share of the US debt that occurred before they got here?

Or is it the responsiblity of ALL Americans, no matter when their famlies got here.

Did your family get dragged here in chains in a boat to be slaves by the way?
Why do you feel you have no responsiblity for what America has done, merely because your white family was allowed in, in the 70's?

Yes, slavery did happen. Get over it. You were not a slave. Why does race and past injustices still have to be issues?

My family roots are from Ireland and Scotland. I have ancestors who were enslaved in Europe for centuries and later subjected to discrimination when they immigrated to America in the 1900's.

Also, slavery has existed throughout the world for centuries. It still exists. Black Americans have no legitimate world claim that they were the only people subjected to discrimination and slavery in the past.

Heck, based on such racist comments out there, I may just vote for the white candidate.

HRC only won the popular vote in Texas because of the bussed in illegals that they got to vote for her. When actual citizens had to be present as in the caucuses, she got creamed. FWIW here in San Diego illegals have been bussed in regularly. I have seen this personally going on. What we need is some form of actual (oh my God!) identification for voters.

To Sketcherz:

Comparing what Lincoln did and what Bush did are apples and oranges. Enemy combatants are people that were actively engaged in combat against us. That's like saying POWs have U.S. legal protections. I'm sure a lot of German POWs in WWII would have loved to have been released under habeas corpus. Lincoln actually suspended it for all U.S. citizens. That was how he stifled protests against the Civil War. Last I checked, no protesters against the war have been held.

Perhaps it is because the 3 trillion dollar debt from Bush's failed wars that have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people and forced 4 million into refugees camps in Syria and Jordan, while bush say, no, our victimes can't come HERE?

Perhaps because after decades of mostly right-wing rule, our economy has been destroyed by those billionaire CEO's that we are told deserve it for taking RISK?

So they greedily took on FAR TOO MUCH RISK so why could buy more 500 foot yachts while smashing the middle class?

Thanks to Repubs, the "family values" party millions of Americans have lost their homes, and many are now living on the streets.

While saying they are the PROLIFE party they celebrate the slaughter of innocent Iraqis, no doubt many of whom were Pregnant. Not that you care about women, but how can PROLIFERS support a war that has killed unknown numbers of "preborn babies"?

The repubs contradict themselves: Americans MUST have guns so we can rise up against the government if neccessary but Iraqis are called terrorrists and extremists when Sadr stands up to the US and tells them to get out of HIS country!

Lies lies and more lies from the Bushies. Stupidity on stupidity.

Obama and Hillary have the same economic policies.
Hillary is infinitely more unlikeable (and untrustworthy).

Why on earth, then would a Democrat hate Obama so much that they would vote for McCain?

How on earth would she have a lead otherwise?

Anyway, as someone who is not sucking at the government teats, this is funny to watch.

I definitely think there will be a trend toward Obama. But Hillary's the Queen of Scare the Crap Out of You three days before the election. So I'm sure she'll come up with something.

I think it will be much closer than the double digit blowout the Clintons have been predicting. An upset would be a welcome gift for the entire nation so we can move on to the general election.

I then hope that the voters of NY will turn out in droves when Hillary is up for re-election to vote her out of office. Neither she or Bill deserve to have any place in public life any longer. They are divisive, deceitful, and have made me embarrassed they represent my country.

Many people are tired of all this partisan bickering and would like someone to do something about this nations ills in a bi-partisan manner. McCain has co=-authored major pieces of Legislation with liberal Democrats like Ted Kennedy, Joe Lieberman, Dianne Fienstein and Russ Feingold(i know 3 of them are Jews- I don't think it matters).President Bush is not running for re-election and this election is not about him. It is about our future.

Very disturbed by this, she called the air hostess. 'You obviously do
not see it then?' she asked. 'You placed me next to a black man. I did not
agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative
seat.'

'Be calm please,' the hostess replied. 'Almost all the places on
this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available.'

The hostess went away & then came back a few minutes later.
'Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in Economy Class. I
spoke to the captain & he informed me that there is also no seat in Business
Class. All the same, we still have one place in First Class.'

Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued.
'It is unusual for our company to permit someone from Economy Class to sit in
First Class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would
be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting.'

Then the hostess turned to the black guy & said, 'Therefore, Sir,
if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in First Class. 'At that moment, the other passengers, who'd been shocked by what they had just witnessed, stood up & applauded.

President Lyndon Johnson used the "N" word until his death and stated frequently that he was using the "war on poverty" to buy "N***ER" votes and keep "them" in the ghetto.

Robert Byrd is still in the Senate and he SAYS he quit the KKK but it doesn't look like it.
