We didn't set it up this way intentionally but it's once again 2012 and North Carolina week...I kind of like doing those polls together each month. So we're taking suggestions on:
-Who to include as the wild card 2012 Republican candidate (we test Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, and Mitt Romney every month.) We're trying to switch up who we put in the poll each month, so we'll consider anyone other than John Thune, David Petraeus, Tim Pawlenty, and Ron Paul who have all been included in the last four months.
-As always we're open to suggestions about interesting questions to put on the national poll. In January we looked at trust in television news, in December it was whether people preferred Obama or Bush, in November we looked at the extent to which folks think ACORN stole the 2008 election, and in September we measured feelings of Obama as the 'Anti-Christ.' Ideas for outside the box questions/lines of questioning are much appreciated.
-And we're always looking for interesting trends to look at in North Carolina besides the stuff we ask every month.

I find it pretty silly to be polling 2012 this far out, Huckabee is pretty clearly not running, and Palin is doubtful.

Outside the box - is Obama vulnerable to a credible primary challenge?
Two ideas for the 4th Republican:
1) Marco Rubio. Although he isn't technically a national politican yet, there's a lot of buzz around him. It's worth noting that he seems to be in about the same position now as Obama was in 2004. It'd be interesting to see how he stacks up against the regulars.
2) Jim DeMint. He's gotten a lot of national coverage thanks to the Tea Party. If he decides to run, he could probably do very well.

I agree with Ryan. The biggest wildcard for the 2012 election is not the identity of the Republican candidate but rather the identity of the Democrat candidate. Americans will want change and ANY Republican candidate would be the candidate of change. The real wildcard is who the mantle of change will pass to for the Democrats. Will the mantle pass to Hillary? or Dean? or Bayh? Or will blind loyalty and insiders' connections and fears of division keep the Democrats' hopes fixated on the president with the biggest first-year drop in public approval?
why not choose someone with high name recognition like Glenn Beck or Scott Brown?

Should Governors be allowed to fill vacancies through appointments?
Should the President be elected by popular vote?
Would you support a Constitutional Convention to revise the Constitution?
Should the United States remain one country or should it be split up into smaller countries?

Also, ask about replacing the current tax system with something like the FairTax or a flat income tax.
I simply adore how posters equivocably are in the "know" that "clearly Huckabee isn't running." The only thing clear is that, if enough people believe this, you are simply leaving the door open for a Huckaboom II when he jumps in. If Obama is not beatable, then Huckabee wont' run -- otherwise, he will be there.
It is so ridiculous that the candidate that has 10 out of 11 consective months done the best against Obama, one time been one point back and actually been the only republican to overtake Obama (by one point granted but no one else did as much) and has been holding himself solidly in all the polls -- why "he" should been the one "clearly not running."
Very foolish to make statements on wishful thinking -- or inaccurate evidence -- when every poll, every event that he attends vis-v-vis crowds and his "first in the weekend" TV ratings --show the opposite.
Oh, well -- to each his own!

I'd like to see polling on Haley Barbour. He would make a nice compliment to Romney on the ticket.
Mitch Daniels is getting a lot of support from Erick and Redstate crowd, try him out.
Or possibly Rick Perry, coming off of his big primary win.
I think more polling should be done which assesses the knowledge of the electorate. Clearly, that is what the administration is quietly doing: doing what is right even though the electorate is too ignorant to understand it.

Would you support significant tax increases if it meant preventing social security and medicare from facing significant cuts?

Do you believe that the news stories you generally read, hear, or see are the most important stores of the day or the result of a personal, corporate, or political campaign to shape the news?
Q1: Would you vote for Hillary Clinton if she decides to challenge Obama for the nomination again?
Q2: Would you say the recent rash of earthquakes is caused by global warming?

One other possible question...
Take ten GOP Presidential contenders for 2012. Ask respondents which TWO candidates would make the best President-VP ticket.
Governor Huckabee is clearly the people's choice and, having topped almost every poll out there. If he thinks Obama can be beaten, he will MOST CERTAINLY run. This country needs him now more than ever. I think the nominee will be Huckabee or Romney. My money is on Huck.
You could poll Roy & the rest of the statewide officeholders.
