More on Florida Senate

Just how good would it be for Charlie Crist if Jeff Greene won the Democratic nomination for the Senate in Florida? Our poll of the state a couple weeks ago found that among people who would vote for Kendrick Meek if he was the Democratic nominee only 32% would vote for Greene were he the nominee while 40% would go for Crist with Libertarian Alex Snitker getting 5% and Marco Rubio pulling 4%.

There's a particularly strong disparity with black voters. If Meek is the nominee Crist loses them 39-33. If Greene is the nominee Crist wins them 61-17.

If Greene manages to win the Democratic primary it may be a Pyrrhic victory with Crist turning out to be real winner.

Maybe...but remember you guys thought Paul would have a problem with Grayson voters but most polls show a united GOP in Ky.

They don't have a third choice like the Dems do with Crist in Florida.

A Pyrrhic victory for Greene, but possibly a life preserver for other Florida Dems. If Greene wins, then the state party establishment and national Dems might feel free to start openly supporting Crist and making a deal with him to become the de facto Democratic nominee. Meek isn't a good campaigner, but there's no question that he's a solid Democrat. Greene is a much less reliable figure and much easier to renounce.

I agree with NRH. Since most of the establishment is already coalesced around Meek, if he loses, then most of them will probably go towards Crist, if they want Rubio to lose.

My only question is the fact that some polls have shown Greene stronger in the general election than Meek. I'm not sure what demographic or group of democrats is supporting Greene but not Meek (certainly not african-americans as your post states). Hopefully you can shed some more light on this in your next poll.

You wish, Greene is polling stronger than Meeks and has the money to continue to hammer Crist, Rubio will benefit from Greene being the nominee.

If Meek is defeated in the primary and Crist becomes the de facto Democratic nominee then I would guess a good number of GOP voters will stop supporting him.

So, by and large, african americans are racists who will always choose the black candidate when given a choice ? Spare me the vitriol in response, please... I'm open to any other explanation that fits here.

the other obvious point is that a Crist victory is not necessarily a win for the Dems, I knwo the guys a weasel, but he was a solid GOP governor, and once he gets in, he's the type to feel zero loyalty to those that got him there, the climate will be so anti obama and anti dems that a Crist in the senate would quickly spin like a weathervane to wherever the winds are blowing.

hell, he'd join the tea party if he thought it would get him ahead. I can see Dems finding out they bought a pig in a poke

If you believe Quinnipiac, yeah, but not in our polls. Meek's stronger in the primary and general, at least by a little.

"If Meek is defeated in the primary and Crist becomes the de facto Democratic nominee then I would guess a good number of GOP voters will stop supporting him."

He's walking a tightrope, yeah, but a majority of Floridians want him to caucus with the Dems should he take office, so I think Crist should be more worried about a strong showing for Meek or Greene than a backlash with the GOP base at this point. He's already done about as much damage as he can with the conservatives. The moderates in his party still mostly like him. Plus, I think Obama and the DNC are smart enough to leave well enough alone. Crist doesn't need their help publicly, and he probably won't get it privately either unless Rubio suddenly surges. But they'll be friendly with him behind the scenes, greasing the wheel for his addition to their caucus, essentially flipping a seat they didn't even try to win.

BS, obviously you don't reside in FLA. More opressive spin.

So Johnny Monday makes a racist comment while accusing others of being racist. The idiocy of some people is unreal.

That reminds me! We haven't seen Herbie around in a while! I wonder if he finally got the medication he needed for his mental condition?
