A few reasons to vote for the Democratic Primary winner, regardless of who that is, against Burr:Obstructionist - Even with the military. In addition to participating in filibuster threats, Burr held up Duckworth's nomination to a key position in the office of veteran affairs despite her strong qualifications. He specifically also let generals travel from Korea and Hawaii to Washington DC for a meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee and then canceled the meeting as a part of a larger party wide effort of obstructionism to not even let meetings happen.Economy - When he was first learning of the severity of the recession he told his wife to go to the ATM day after day taking out all the money it would allow b/c he was convinced that in a few days "the last thing that would come out of the ATM is money" (I can't recall his exact quote, but that isn't far off). Perhaps one of the most damning reasons not to vote against him is his meeting with representatives with members of Goldman Sachs, who then gave the max allowed contribution to his campaign, and then he took a strong stand against Wall Street Reform.Washington Incumbent - This one might not be a big deal to everyone, but I know for some people they don't like politicians who have been in Washington forever, and Burr has been in Congress & in Washington for nearly 2 decades. But after nearly 2 decades its hard to name any big Burr accomplishments.Women's issues - He voted against Frank's anti-rape amendment which passed with many Dem & GOP votes. He also voted for domestic violence to continue as a pre-existing condition.Gay Rights - Probably not something everyone cares about, but he's against repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell and favors an amendment to the US constitution to write in a ban of gay marriage. So much for the sanctity of the constitution, so much for state’s rights, so much for keeping big government out of personal lives.Environment - He tends to rate horribly here. According to Wikipedia: "Burr has generally received low ratings from environmental-protection organizations. In 2007-2008, for example, he received a rating of 0% from Environment America, 12% from the League of Conservation Voters, and 29% from Republicans for Environmental Protection."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Burr
Jake,Are you serious? 1 trillion dollars in stimulus by democrats and one and 1/2years in counting. How many jobs have been created? Please don't include the census job. We all know that numbers. We are so glad that he is obstructing democrats spending on stimulus, healthcare, climate bill and so on.When people are mad at washington, they are mostly mad at the party running the affairs. I hope, Elaine Marshall campaigns with Reid, Pelosi and Obama in North Carolina. Environment--This is not the time to have a climate bill curtailing our industries. I am glad, Richard Burr is against any measures.
Ain't gonna help ya! Burr will be re-elected!
"Perhaps one of the most damning reasons not to vote against him is his meeting with representatives with members of Goldman Sachs, "You know who else met with Goldman Sachs execs FOUR TIMES in the past year? Obama.http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/04/21/92637/goldmans-connections-to-white.html"Economy - When he was first learning of the severity of the recession he told his wife to go to the ATM day after day taking out all the money it would allow b/c he was convinced that in a few days "the last thing that would come out of the ATM is money" (I can't recall his exact quote, but that isn't far off). "You're doing a bad job, you're humanizing him. If you weren't running the banks then, then the Obama-supported TARP was unnecessary.
@JakeObstructing Democrat tyranny makes Burr the right choice. Republicans clearly have the better ideas on the economy: cut taxes, control spending, ease regulatory burdens.Burr was right to oppose Franken's cynical attack on the legal rights of private companies. And insurance companies are right to price pre-existing conditions as higher risk. It was tyrannical for Democrats to try to dictate how insurance companies price risk. And the far-left demagoguery of "conservation" special interests makes these "environmental" front groups a JOKE.Burr is the better candidate on EVERY single issue. Burr is the better candidate in every way.
