It's looking more and more likely that John Boehner will become Speaker of the House but he's pretty unknown in Ohio and the folks who do have an opinion about him lean negative.
42% of Ohio voters say they don't know enough about Boehner to rate him one way or the other. Among those who do 27% see him positively and 31% have an unfavorable view. Democrats (53%) dislike him more than Republicans (51%) like him and independents go against him by a 22/27 margin as well.
Only 28% of voters in the state want Boehner to become Speaker of the House if Republicans get the majority this fall while 44% explicitly say they want someone else and 28% are unsure. Republicans do by a 54/15 margin want Boehner to ascend to the top spot but Democrats (73/6) and independents (41/22) are not swayed by home state pride and think the GOP should pick someone else if they get in control.
On a less serious note Boehner's overall poll numbers are at least running ahead of the poll numbers for his tan. Only 8% of voters in the state have a favorable opinion of Boehner's tan while 27% view it unfavorably. Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike have a negative opinion of it, about the only thing they all agreed on in this poll. 30% of voters in the state think Boehner spends too much time on his tan, 14% think he spends about the right amount of time, and 4% say it's not enough. Maybe his overall poll numbers on the home front will go up if he tones it down a little on the tanning.

You are freakin' funny!
"It's looking more and more likely that John Boehner will become Speaker of the House"
starting to wonder when you would actually admit this.
Thanks for doing this one. I gotta say that I'm shocked that 42% of people in his own home state aren't sure of their opinion on him. He's the minority leader and he's from their state. With a number that high, you have to think that it's at least 20% in his district.
I wish you'd done the preference among people voting for Republicans, rather than just by party. I'm wondering how the 36% who say they're voting Republican make up the 22%/41%. They're putting him there, after all.
It isn't good with Republicans, however. 94% say they're voting Republican, compared to 1% that aren't. Yet, only 54% want their own home state guy as speaker. The 15% he didn't get isn't so bad, but when you add it to the 31% who did, that's bad.
Your questions are interesting. You don't say congressman John Boehner, minority leader John Boehner, or John Boehner, congressman from the 8th district of Ohio. You give so little information that it really shows how few people know him and how few are excited by him.
I think your question is fine, but apparently voters are really uninformed. I do wonder how your results would've been, however, if you told people who he was.
Sadly, Michele Bachmann is more well known.
Should that say, "Republicans do by a 54/15 margin want Boehner to ascend to the top spot but Democrats [6/73] and independents [22/41] are not swayed by home state pride and think the GOP should pick someone else if they get in control"?
Ok I lolled on this one, especially the 4% who think he doesn't do enough work on his tan.
GTL Mr. Speaker.
CL, don't you want a Tea Party Republican as your speaker?
John Boehner's tan?
You cannot be serious!
Are you guys really that desperate for polling material?
PLEEEEZE!!!
Ohio is a large state. Boehner represents a relatively small portion of the state.
I'm surprised so many people know enough about him to have an opinion.
Those GOP numbers, 54-15, are really excellent for him, though. When you consider the amount of anger conservatives have for the recent GOP leadership, for Boehner to be overwhelmingly favored for the speakership statewide is remarkable.

Not really. It's nothing close to Obama's approval numbers in his own party.
I kept wondering if I read that incorrectly. Polling would really be concerned about someone's tan??? How do we know that isn't his natural skin color. He may have a Native American or some other ethnicity/background that would give him a deeper skin tone. I just can't believe someone would ask that type of question. ???
Democrats attacking the little-known Boehner is a sign of desperation. It will backfire and elevate Boehner rather than bailing out the listless Democrats.
