Wrapping up Alaska

John Edwards, move over. There's a new standard bearer for the most unpopular person PPP has polled in any state: Levi Johnston in Alaska.

Edwards' 15/72 favorability on our January North Carolina poll had set the initial record for futility but Johnston matches the 72% unfavorable number while only 6% of Alaskans see him in a positive light. Those poll numbers probably don't bode too well for his Wasilla Mayoral candidacy.

Johnston is reviled pretty universally across the board but he's a little more popular with Democrats (15/61) than he is with Republicans (4/76) or independents (4/74).

It's hard to muster a favorability rating lower than 6%- that's about where the average person off the street we polled on a lark would be- so Johnson may hold this dubious distinction for a long time. Who besides like Hitler or Osama Bid Laden do you think we could poll who would be less popular in some particular state?

On another note 11% of Alaskans say they can see Russia from their houses while 83% say they can't and 7% aren't sure whether they can or not. Interestingly people with a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin are more likely to be able to see Russia from their homesteads (16%) than folks with an unfavorable opinion of her (8%). I think there must be a way to actually calculate how many people in Alaska can see Russia from their houses and I have a feeling it's nowhere near as high as 11% but some folks may have been having fun with the question.

And on a more serious note a majority of Alaskans now have a negative opinion of Sarah Palin. 55% see her unfavorably while only 37% still hold on to a positive view. Barack Obama's approval rating in the state, at 44/53, is actually higher than Palin's favorability. I wouldn't go so far as to say Obama is more popular though since a lot of the Republicans who don't like Palin probably still prefer her to Obama. Nevertheless the numbers are striking. 91% of Democrats have a negative opinion of Palin while only 62% of Republicans like her, and independents split against her by a 30/61 margin as well.

I'm impressed that an overwheming majority of Democrats had the moral integrity to say that they view Levi Johnston unfavorably.

15% of Democrats like this guy? Just goes to show you that Palin-hate is enough with a sizable portion of the Democratic Party.

Andrew Sullivan demands to know why you didn't have the courage to ask people whether Trig is really Sarah Palin's baby.

I'm still stunned that his favorability is that high.

Seriously, what has this guy done to make anyone have a favorable opinion of him? He's got plenty in the negative column, but what does he have to make one like him? While some may like that he's a Palin antagonist, he's been particularly sleazy, contradictory, and well...ineffective...in his attempts to smear Palin.

Russia Schmussia. My house is on Mt. McKinley; On a clear day I can see the Washington Monument.

You realise of course that it was Tina Fey, not Sarah Palin that said that she could see Russia from her house.
A lot of leftists are confused by this point.

Tina fey said she could see russia from her house, not sarah palin.

PPP is poo poo poo.

Levi Johnston and Meghan McCain would make a great couple. Both are total losers and without a connection to Sarah Palin, no one would pay attention to either.

I can't believe you're even polling him. Seriously. How about y'all at least try to be legitimate.

Much more notably, younger respondents had a more favorable impression of Levi, suggesting that there might be some degree of age-related sympathy (or younger respondents being more inclined to mess with the results). The same holds with being able to see Russia. Apparently non-white voters were much more likely to favor Levi and see Russia too, much more prominently than Palin supporters.

One cross-tab I'd like to see that you didn't show - can you fill us in? Sarah Palin favorability against party membership.

The leftist media MYTH that Palin is "polarizing" or unelectable may have temporarily suppressed her favorability. But those who get to know her fall in love with her, the most down to earth honest person to ever run for national office. And nothing succeeds like success. Watch how fast Americans support Sarah once she wins Iowa and/or South Carolina.

No, but Palin DID imply that Alaksa's proximity to Russia made her more qualified, foreign policy-wise (which is a complete ludicrous argument).

She did say "As Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there, they are right next to our state."

Below is a video where Palin discusses her foreign policy experience with regards to Alaska.

If this still makes you a Palin supporter than I am very confused.

You don't help your case by writing in all caps and misspelling every other word.

Folks, we've already acknowledged that the actual quote came from Tina Fey on SNL. It's a question for entertainment purposes.

I completely agree that only morons keep bringing up the "I can see Russia from my front porch" nonsense, but if you are going to insult someone's "INTELECT", the least you can do is insult it in a post not riddled with grammar and spelling errors.

People are going insane about this "I can see Russia" thing. Do you get this upset when people say Obama is a Muslim? He's not a Muslim yet around 20% of American believe he is... That shows you propaganda, spin and ignorance are winning elections in the US.

There are untruths on both sides of politics which is clouding everybody's judgment. Calm down and think for yourselves.
