The next couple weeks...

Our Virginia poll is in the field now. Beyond all the basics we asked folks who their favorite and least favorite Governors of the last 20 years are, what their opinion of Doug Wilder and his endorsements is, and also did some comparative questions on Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. I imagine we'll be doing the latter in several states in the near future because I'm interested in whether there is really any shift in who the right wingers are following most intently.

I also streamlined the question geared toward figuring out how individual vote preferences have shifted over the last month, thanks for the feedback that it was too long and cumbersome. We really are listening!

North Carolina is on deck for this week. It seems like a really dull time in North Carolina politics. I don't think I wrote anything about NC on the blog all week...any suggestions for interesting and enlightening questions there? I'm considerably more interested in asking about things that are very specific to the state than I am in asking what NC voters think about various national issues.

Go Heels, take down the Yellow Jackets, go Blue, beat the Hoosiers!

Give us a poll on the positive/negative feelings associated with NC sports teams. Which college sports team is most hated in NC? Most loved?

Or a job approval rating on various coaches? Coach K? Coach Roy?

Just curious, when are you going to do another NJ poll?

And since we are less than six weeks away, is it possible to start doing VA and NJ bi-weekly?

Election issues:
Seeing How Bev Perdue is doing in 2012 against Pat McCroy.

If you want something totally out of the box, you could poll a couple House races (e.g. Kissell)

___
Approval:
Perdue, Hagan, Burr, Walter Dalton (The Lt Governor)

___
Burr Election:
Burr vs the usual list

___
Nationwide Issues:
*Cap and Trade (it is with the scheme of the wind farm thing)
*ACORN

___
Statewide issues:
*Do you support Offshore Wind Farms?
http://www.wral.com/news/state/story/6078367/

*Do you support drilling off North Carolina's coast?

*Do you support the new tax on tobacco products/cigarettes?
http://theapp.appstate.edu/content/view/5260/42/

*Do you support the new alcohol tax?
http://theapp.appstate.edu/content/view/5260/42/

*Do you believe in climate change/global warming?

______
Other:
*In regards to the swine flu this season, are you getting a flu shot? Did you get one last year?

I'm sure I can think of some others... but that's a start.

Ask whether North Carolina voters believe Barack Obama loves this country. I think even you would concede that a "no" answer is rational (based on Obama's past comments about America), unlike questions pertaining to his place of birth.

The Economist/YouGov weekly poll only found 39% willing to say that Obama was patriotic. Obama's approval is at 51%, so even those who like the job he is doing aren't ready to assign the "patriotic" tag to him.

I would be interested in knowing how many watch Fox. I would also like to know how many feel that Fox neutral/conservative/liberal on the news

How about a question about past governors, like your Va. one? I bet Hunt's pretty popular, and Easley's pretty not...

Is it possible to poll about the 2010 Census - either/ both "fact" questions (how is census data used? Who is responsible for collecting/analyzing? Etc) and "feeling" questions (is the census good or bad? Do you have / what are your concerns about how census data gets used? Etc)

I am not trying to be morbid, but given recent news out of KY (where I grew up), I would like to know what an NC survey might show. I guess I've actually been wondering about this for a while, beginning when a census worker came to verify my address. I was surprised by her timidity, and apparent gratitude at my willingness to speak to her. I livein Chapel Hill, and would have expected that most folks here were open to the idea of census-related data gathering, but that is definitely not the impression I got from conversing with "my" census worker. I know that my anecdote and one horrific national story may not be enough to justify polling this, but I am generally curious about attitudes and beliefs about the census.

I also like the governors question, as a follow-up to your unpopular politicians postings. Maybe Jim Hunt and Jesse Helms won't fare as well in today's NC (though I bet they will).

Perhaps your October polls in VA/NJ could include a "generic ballot" for the Virginia House of Delegates/New Jersey Assembly. There have been rumblings that the Republicans have an (outside) shot at taking the NJ Assembly, and the same for the Democrats with the VA House of Delegates.

Continuing on the FOX question,

What do people in NC watch?
*CNN
*FOX
*MSNBC
*Nothing or Something Else

Poll the democratic primary for senate

I would like to see you poll seniors at a higher % in your NC poll since you say they will turn out more in off year elections. Somewhere above 30% should be a good mark.
