Where is our tracking poll?

I've gotten that question from plenty of campaign surrogates and interested observers in the last few days.

We're waiting to do it so that our numbers reflect the momentum presidential candidates gain or lose from Iowa and New Hampshire. More specifically, it will be interesting to see if the Obama momentum is reflected among North Carolina Democrats the way it's showing in New Hampshire polls right now- will John Edwards be doing poorly even on the home front?

So I'm planning to run it Wednesday night and we'll release the results Thursday and Friday.

But a rumor came up over the weekend that Pat McCrory might announce his candidacy for Governor this week. If that turns out to be the case we'll want our numbers to reflect any momentum or lack thereof he gets following the announcement so that could delay it a little further.

I'm certainly interested to see the results. What initial impact, if any, have Bev Perdue's attacks on Richard Moore as it relates to the Randy Parton scandal had? My guess would be none. Will Fred Smith continue the lead he has built over Bill Graham the last couple of months, and has all the talk about a possible McCrory candidacy over the last month helped build up his name recognition outside the Charlotte area? Those are a couple of the things I'll be watching for, when we finally do it.

Just get on with it, Pat, so we can do our poll!
